At 1500 the Orwell Fire Company was activated for a dog in the water in the Salmon River Falls gorge.
Upon investigation it was found that the dog was trapped on the other side of the river due to water flow levels.
Due to water flow levels two individuals had to enter to water to safely bring the dog out of the gorge.
The dog was safely returned to the owners.
Orwell units returned available at 1702

🚒 **Drill Night Recap – Working Smarter with Water Supply** 🚒

This month we split into two crews and focused on two critical skills:

🔹 **SCBA Operations** – one crew drilled on air management and working in gear.
🔹 **Dual Pumping (Intake-to-Intake)** – the other crew worked on moving serious water efficiently.

**What is dual pumping?**
Instead of feeding a second engine from a discharge, we connected **intake-to-intake**:

* First engine secures the hydrant
* Second engine lays 5” LDH to the first engine’s second intake
* Water flows *through* the first engine to supply the second

**What we saw:**

* ~75 PSI static on intake (our system no flow)
* ~40 PSI while both engines flowed 500 GPM at 125 PSI

💡 **The big takeaway:**
The second engine performed *significantly better* with hydrant pressure on its intake.

* Smoother pump operations
* Better governor control
* Less strain compared to being fed off a discharge

👉 Bottom line:
**If you can give an engine hydrant pressure instead of pumped water… do it.**

Simple setup. Big impact.

Yesterday was a long day

The Orwell Fire Company received an alarm for a structure fire at 10:08 am of an occupied structure. With the age and construction type of the building combined with high winds (gusts as high as 50 mph were recorded), snow, white out conditions and freezing temperatures . The final units cleared the scene at 3:45 pm.

Before getting our main attack engine back in service, we were reactivate for a rekindle at 4:38pm. While working on the rekindle we were activated for a medical emergency several miles east of the fire. This was handled by Redfield Volunteer Fire Company, Inc and Auxiliary . While we worked on breaking down and reopening the road so the ambulance could get through to potentially critical patient with out taking a several mile detour. Orwell returned to the station at 6:35pm to work on putting our equipment back in service.

Before finishing putting all of our equipment back in service, at 9:07 pm Orwell Fire was activated to go mutual aide to Lacona Fire Department for a structure fire. Leaving that scene to put our equipment back in service at approximately 10:50 pm.

While en route to our station at 10:57pm we were activated for a possibility rekindle at the previous structure fire. A deck gun and overhaul operation was concluded at 12:58 am.

We returned to our station successfully and able to get our equipment back in response readiness around 2 am this morning.
