City of Oroville Fire Department

City of Oroville Fire Department Welcome to the City of Oroville Fire Department.

06/28/2022

On June 29, 2022 Oroville Fire and Cal Fire will be conducting a prescribed burn at Oroville airport.
The prescribed burn will reduce 130 acres of hazardous fuels inside the airport and help prepare for the 4th of July event held at Oroville airport.
Prescribed burns provide a valuable training opportunity for firefighters while allowing the vegetation to be managed to reduce the risk of a wildfire in an area.
Smoke will be seen in and around the airport for most of the day while firefighters are conducting the prescribed burn.

A Red Flag Warning will take affect this evening at 5 pm until Wednesday evening.
High winds and low humidity will settle into the region and the potential for rapid fire growth will be very high.
Durning the summer months it is important to stay up to date on critical fire weather and forecasts.

The Oroville Fire Department would like to wish everyone a happy and safe Independence Day. As the 4th of July approaches and our citizens are eager to celebrate our independence, we would like to remind everyone that fireworks are allowed only in certain areas of the city, a map has been provided outlining these areas.
We also encourage all residents to observe the following safety tips, which will help reduce or eliminate injuries and potential fires related to fireworks use:

- Adults should always supervise fireworks activities. Even sparklers pose a hazard for children. Sparklers burn at temperatures of about 1,200 degrees. Sparklers alone accounted for nearly one-half of all firework related injuries to children younger than 5 and roughly one-quarter of all emergency room visits related to fireworks.

- Always have a bucket of water and a charged water hose nearby in case of fire or other accidents. It is also a good idea to have a first-aid kit handy.

- Never try and relight fireworks that have not ignited.

- Use only "Safe and Sane" fireworks, purchased from a licensed booth and bearing the State Fire Marshal seal.

- Never mix the consumption of alcohol and the lighting of fireworks.

- After fireworks complete their burning, douse the spent device with water from a bucket or hose before discarding it to prevent a trash fire.

Be safe and happy 4th of July.
