Turquoise Lake outside Leadville, 9,800 ft. I took the road to Aspen just long enough to get a bad photo of Mt. Albert, highest 14er in Colorado. I could not find the place M processed veggie oil 15 years ago but found some cute Leadville houses. Set up car camp as it will be 32 degrees tonight! This is the last independent camp I will have- after this a new part of the journey- family camp. I got sad today about living and losses. Figured I’d earned my Purple Heart. We skied this frozen lake and returned just before dark as a dense blizzard came at us. I was scared. Michael, never.

Montana’s beautiful, serene rivers were sites of life-changing experiences for me. The rights of all Montanans to those rivers were won through working-class struggle — a history we can draw on today as Montana’s rich aim to hoard those rivers for themselves.
