🚒 New Thermal Imaging Cameras Enhance Firefighter Safety and Effectiveness 🚒

The Orono Fire Department recently upgraded our thermal imaging capabilities through funding provided by our Capital Improvement Program.

We purchased five SEEK FirePRO personal thermal imaging cameras, allowing every firefighter on duty to have access to their own camera. These compact devices improve situational awareness, support faster search operations, and can assist firefighters with orientation and self-rescue in low-visibility conditions.

In addition, we purchased three SEEK AttackPRO thermal imaging cameras, ensuring that each frontline apparatus is equipped with a larger, vehicle-mounted thermal imaging camera. These cameras provide a larger display, greater detail, and a wider field of view to support fireground operations.

Thermal imaging technology helps firefighters:

🔥 Locate the seat of a fire more quickly
🏠 Confirm whether rooms have been searched and cleared
🧍 Identify victims who may be obscured by smoke or darkness
🌡️ Monitor changing heat conditions during fire attack and overhaul operations

While thermal imaging cameras do not replace training, experience, or sound decision-making, they are valuable tools that enhance firefighter safety and effectiveness. Providing every firefighter with access to this technology allows for quicker assessments, more informed decisions, and improved operational efficiency in high-stress environments.

We would like to thank the Town Administration and Town Council for their continued support and investment in the safety of our firefighters and the community we serve. 🚒❤️

Today, more than half of our department received new sets of turnout gear. While we won't get too deep into the technical details, one of the biggest improvements is that this gear is PFAS-free, helping reduce exposure to potentially harmful chemicals while keeping our members protected on the job.

This delivery also allows many of our firefighters to retire aging gear and replace it with new, modern equipment designed to meet today's safety standards.

As firefighters, we rely on our gear every time we answer the call. Investing in safe, high-quality equipment is an investment in the health, safety, and longevity of our members.

We're proud to see this upgrade reaching our department.

Stay safe, and thank you to everyone who helped make this possible.

Today, we pause to give thanks to the heroes who gave everything to protect our freedoms. Honor. Sacrifice. Solidarity.

Gone too soon. Rest easy brother.

It is with a heavy heart and profound sadness that the West Bath Fire Department announces the loss of a longtime member and officer. For decades, Mike Drake served as a member, holding many ranks throughout his time here. He was best known for his passion for training firefighters, not only training members of the West Bath Fire Department but also members of countless area departments and nationally at FDIC. He will forever be missed, leaving a hole that will never be filled, but his legacy of service to the Town of West Bath and surrounding communities will never be forgotten.
