🚒 Orono Fire Department Safety Reminder 🚒

⏰ Spring Forward, Stay Safe! ⏰

On Sunday, March 8, when you move your clocks ahead one hour for Daylight Saving Time, take a moment to check something that could save your life: your smoke alarm batteries. 🔋🏠🔥

Working smoke alarms are one of the most important safety tools in your home. According to fire safety experts, working smoke alarms cut the risk of dying in a home fire by about half, which is why the clock change is a great reminder to make sure yours are ready to go.

Here are a few quick tips from the Orono Fire Department to help keep your home protected:

🔋 Smoke alarms with 10-year sealed batteries
These alarms are designed to remain effective for up to 10 years. If the alarm indicates the battery is low, replace the entire smoke alarm right away.

🔋 Smoke alarms with replaceable batteries
These alarms should receive new batteries at least once a year. If the alarm indicates a low battery, replace the battery immediately.

🔋 Use the correct battery type
Always check the manufacturer’s instructions on the back of the alarm for the specific battery brand and model required. Using a different type of battery may prevent the alarm from working properly.

✅ Test smoke alarms monthly using the test button
🏠 Install alarms on every level of your home, inside bedrooms, and outside sleeping areas
⌛ Replace smoke alarms every 10 years

It only takes a minute to check, but it can make a life-saving difference for you and your family. ❤️

🇺🇸 Honouring Our Heroes This Veterans Day! 🇺🇸

Today we proudly recognise three members of our fire family who have answered the call to serve, both our country and our community.

🔥 William Sarmousakis, Logan Hildreth, and Zachary Carr — thank you for your dedication, courage, and sacrifice.

A special shoutout to William Saemousakis, who continues to serve our nation while still being a part of our team here at the firehouse. We’re proud of you and grateful for everything you do! 💪

Your service doesn’t stop when you leave the station or the base — and that commitment inspires us all.

To all veterans past and present, we thank you today and every day. ❤️🤍💙

🔥 Thank You for an Amazing Open House! 🔥

A huge thank you to everyone who stopped by our Open House this past weekend! We had an awesome time meeting so many members of our community, talking about fire safety, and showing off the station.

Big shoutout to Bananas the Bear from the University of Maine for helping spread fire safety awareness, Ranger Burr and the Maine Forest Rangers for bringing Smokey Bear, and of course Sparky the Fire Dog for keeping everyone smiling! 🐻🐾

We loved seeing everyone come together to learn, laugh, and celebrate with us. Check out some photos from the day below — and we can’t wait to see you all at the next one! 🚒❤️
