Friendly reminder! 📆 June 8 - 29, 2026 |💧Free Chlorine Conversion

City crews are performing scheduled maintenance on Ormond Beach’s drinking water system. During this time, hydrants will be flushed city-wide as we temporarily switch to free chlorine, a stronger disinfectant.

✅Water remains safe to drink and meets all quality standards.

⚠️You may notice a slight change in taste or odor, which is normal during the process.

🎉 Congratulations, Erin Kealy! 🎉

Yesterday, Mayor Jason Leslie proudly proclaimed June 9, 2026 as a day to recognize Erin Kealy in the City of Ormond Beach. 🏙️✨

Erin exemplifies everything we love about our community’s young people. A four-year student-athlete at Father Lopez High School, she competed in softball, cheer, weightlifting, track and field, and the Dancing Green Waves, all while maintaining an outstanding academic record. 📚🏃‍♀️🏋️‍♀️

But what truly sets Erin apart is her character. A natural leader, a supportive teammate, and a young woman of integrity, kindness, and resilience, she represents the very best of what Ormond Beach is all about. 💚🌊

Ormond Beach is proud of you, Erin. The future is bright! 🌟

The 100 Deadly Days of Summer remind us that small decisions behind the wheel can have life-changing consequences.

🚗 Teens are 2.5x more likely to take risks when driving with one teen passenger.
🚗 That risk jumps to 3x with multiple passengers.

📍 An update on the vacant Makai Beach Lodge at 707 S. Atlantic Ave.

This property has sat vacant and deteriorating for years, and after the May 8 fire it became a clear safety concern for the surrounding area. Since then, the City has kept steady pressure on the current owners (they only took over the property a few months ago) to clean it up and secure it, and some of that work is now underway.

The owners have covered the graffiti, removed the trash, cut back the vegetation, and cleared the remaining storm debris from the site. We've been informed that they also hired a company to begin the permitting process for a fence around the property. The owners have local representation that have been on-site directing the work this past week, and we expect that to continue until the site is fully secured and in compliance.

🔎 Our Neighborhood Improvement Division stays in regular contact with the owners and is monitoring the site, and the Fire Marshal is doing the same. There is still work left to do, and we are committed to keeping up with the owners as they move forward with deciding on a plan to demolish or renovate.

For anyone just catching up: this is the property where a fire broke out on May 8. FPL has since fully disconnected the building from the power grid, and a City assessment team and an independent engineer confirmed it is not in structural danger.

The City will continue working with the owners to bring this property into compliance while protecting the safety of the surrounding community. We'll provide further updates as the case moves forward.
