Happy Hispanic Heritage Month from OCCD!🎉

Each year, we celebrate the heritage, history, traditions, and cultural diversity of Hispanic Americans. Hispanic Heritage Month is celebrated mid-September to mid-October to highlight the independence of several Latin American countries. This year’s theme, “Unidos, Somos Más. Together, We Are More.” celebrates the diverse stories that strengthen our nation.

Curious about a way to celebrate? Visit the Orange County, Florida Government annual Hispanic Heritage Month Art Exhibit open to the public from September 4 through October 22, 2026. You can visit it at the Orange County Administration Building, 201 S. Rosalind Ave., Orlando, FL 32801.

Several of our staff members had the honor of attending the Central Florida Hotel & Lodging Association (CFHLA) Patriot Day Remembrance Breakfast to honor local first responders on 9/11.

This breakfast was a truly meaningful way to remember the events and lives lost on 9/11, and continue to honor first responders who go above and beyond for our community each day. 🇺🇸

25 years later we continue to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.🇺🇸

This morning we gathered alongside partner agencies from across central Florida to honor those who lost their lives at the Valencia College - School of Public Safety 25th Annual 9/11 Remembrance Ceremony. We will continue to remember those first responders who answered the call and continue to serve our community each day. Many gave the ultimate sacrifice. We will never forget.

Some 📸 from a fun and educational night for participants in the Orange County, Florida 🍊 Mayor’s Citizens Academy!

There’s no better way for our citizens to see the incredible work our Hidden Heroes do each day than to see them in action first-hand. Participants visited three of our facilities, learned about inmate programs, and were able to meet many of our specialty units. From asking questions to sharing stories, we hope all our visitors left with a better understanding of what it takes to keep Orange County safe each day.

We hope they enjoy the rest of their academy, giving them an interactive look into our local government, one department at a time.
