College Democrats at UCF Progressive Caucus

College Democrats at UCF Progressive Caucus "The test of our progress is not whether we add more to the abundance of those who have much; it is Progressivism is a broad term encompassing many issues.

The College Democrats at UCF Progressive Caucus represents the ideals of progressivism in the Democratic Party. It seeks to educate the membership and student body about progressivism itself and the goals it strives to reach. From labor to education, health care to social welfare, women's issues to LGBT issues, its goals are numerous and far-reaching. They affect everyone in our community and our

nation, from college students to senior citizens. At the core of progressivism is a belief in social and economic equality for all citizens. Among the top priorities for progressives are achieving universal health care; prioritizing public education; eliminating corporate welfare; defending workers' rights to collective bargaining and fair pay; abolition of the death penalty; and campaign finance reform. These are but a handful of the goals we strive for.

Hostess, the maker of legendary Twinkies sponge cakes, is shutting down amidst a company-wide bakers's strike.

These same workers have made multiple concessions to Hostess over the past decade in order to keep the company afloat; all the while, however, executives up at the top were increasing their own pay. Now, instead of re-examining their priorities and putting their workers first, Hostess has decided to shut down and fire their 18,500+ workforce.

Until the company announced Friday that it intended to liquidate and lay off most of its nearly 19,000 employees, Hostess Brands, the maker of iconic Twinkies and Wonder Bread, had spent several months in acrimonious talks with the two unions that represent the bulk of its workforce. Ultimately, the...
