Now that K-12 students have their first week of school behind them, we're throwing it back to summer break when Chipper and Luna visited Beyond the Leash Kids Camp! 🐾

Campers learned about police work and the many roles working dogs can play, including therapy dogs. As a special thank-you, they made friendship bracelets for Chipper and Luna and colored pictures of the pups to decorate their crates.

Over the past week, Officer and Bagpiper Michael Rivera attended a Running 4 Heroes Inc. event to honor four fallen first responders.

Running 4 Heroes is dedicated to supporting the families of first responders who have died in the line of duty. For each fallen officer, a youth runner completes a one‑mile tribute while carrying a flag, which is later presented to the officer’s family along with a handwritten note.

We're proud to share that UCFPD has been recognized with two statewide traffic safety awards for our efforts to keep our roads safe.

🐾 FRIDAY PUPDATE 🐾

Just because classes aren't in session doesn't mean UCFPD takes a break.

K-9 Thor and Officer Sparks spent the week patrolling the College of Medicine campus, while therapy dog Luna visited dispatch and briefly considered a career change.

After listening in on a phone call, Luna decided dispatching was a little too ruff and returned to her therapy duties. 🐶💙

We're here all year long, keeping watch over campus. 💛🖤

While reporting for his shift, Corporal Proctor found a baby bird near the back entrance of UCFPD. With most wildlife rescues closed for the night, he contacted wildlife experts for guidance and learned it would need to be fed cat food to survive until morning. He and his wife spent the night caring for and feeding the bird, helping keep it alive until it could be transferred to a wildlife rescue.

Believed to be a young blue jay, the bird was doing well when it was placed in expert care the next day. Sometimes making a difference means helping even the smallest members of our community. 🐥💛
