🚸 Woodinville, WA Enhances Student Safety with New School Speed Enforcement Program using NovoaGlobal technology. The City of Woodinville is taking action to encourage safer driving and protect students and pedestrians with a new school zone speed enforcement program along NE 195th Street near Woodinville High School and Woodin Elementary School. The program uses advanced photo enforcement technology from NovoaGlobal® to help curb dangerous speeding during school hours.

⚠️ A two-month warning period is now underway. During this educational phase, registered owners of vehicles exceeding the speed limit will receive a WARNING notice by mail—but no fine will be issued. Following the two-month warning period, payable notices will begin for verified violations.

The program follows a 2025 traffic study on NE 195th Street that found existing signage and flashing beacons were not consistently slowing traffic to safer speeds.

Every potential violation will be reviewed and authorized by a Woodinville Police Officer before a notice is mailed.

NovoaGlobal® is proud to partner with the City of Woodinville to encourage safer driving behaviors and help create a safer environment for students, families and everyone traveling through the school zone.

🚗 Slow down. Stay alert. Protect students.

NovoaGlobal customer Portland has Over 30 speed and intersection cameras operating across Portland’s High Crash Network, issuing 69,000 citations since November, with more cameras coming soon. PBOT contracted with NovoaGlobal in August 2025 as its new safety camera provider.

Placed at locations with a history of serious and deadly crashes, the cameras support Portland’s Vision Zero goal of eliminating traffic deaths and serious injuries on Portland streets. Since Nov. 2025, PBOT and the Portland Police Bureau (PPB) approved and issued over 69,000 citations from speed and intersection safety cameras.

The Portland Police Bureau also uses NovoaGlobal’s technology in its mobile enforcement vans, with one actively out and enforcing in areas of concern that do not currently have safety cameras. A second van is scheduled to become active soon and will be used primarily during evenings and weekends. NovoaGlobal currently operates in the United States and South America, including Washington, D.C., Tacoma, and Beaverton. Their comprehensive traffic safety solutions offer tools to help combat the ongoing crisis of traffic-related injuries and fatalities.

Speed and intersection safety cameras are an effective tool for reducing dangerous speeding in Portland. Since the first safety cameras were installed in 2016, speeding at the original camera locations dropped 59%, while top-end speeding, defined as driving more than 10 mph over the speed limit, dropped 88%.

The safety camera program is a critical component of Portland’s Vision Zero program, aiming to eliminate traffic deaths, serious injuries. State law allows cities to use speed and intersection safety cameras to improve traffic safety. The purpose of speed and intersection safety cameras is to change behavior, not to generate revenue. The program is funded by the revenue from camera citations and traffic safety diversion class registration fees.

PBOT continues to invest in safety projects on the High Crash Network. The following projects are currently under construction on High Crash Streets: NE Halsey Street (80th to 92nd avenues) - Safety and Access to Transit Project, NE 60th Avenue and Halsey Street Area Improvement Project , NE Killingsworth Safer Crossings Project, 82nd Avenue: Major Maintenance, and 82nd Avenue Crossing Project.

As more Americans choose bicycling for commuting and recreation, speeding remains one of the biggest threats to cyclist safety. According to NHTSA, 1,166 bicyclists were killed in crashes involving motor vehicles in 2023.

Studies continue to show that speed enforcement programs help reduce crashes, injuries, and dangerous driving behaviors — especially in school zones and high-risk areas where cyclists and families are present.
