Thank You, Orland ❤️🤍💙

Tonight’s September 11 Memorial Rededication was a beautiful reminder of what can happen when a community comes together to remember, honor, and serve.

On the 25th anniversary of September 11, 2001, we gathered at Memorial Park to rededicate a memorial first established by our community in 2001 and to give it a renewed place of honor for future generations.

The Town of Orland would like to sincerely thank everyone who helped make tonight’s ceremony so meaningful, including the American Legion, Orland Fire Department, Orland Police Department, Orland Library, Pastor Mark Emelander of Orland Congregational Church, and the LaGrange DeLayfette Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution.

A very special thank you goes to Kevin Kellett, whose idea, persistence, and work helped bring this rededication to life. Kevin was instrumental in restoring the original vision of the memorial, including the placement of two new trees alongside the stone to once again represent the Twin Towers.

We are especially grateful to Kelly Re*****on of Good Times Horticulture in Fremont, Indiana, for generously donating the two Columnar Norway Spruce trees that now stand beside the memorial, and to JD Landscaping of Sturgis, Michigan, for their work in planting and helping establish the new trees.

We also want to thank our Town maintenance staff for the work involved in relocating the memorial, preparing Memorial Park, and making sure the site was ready for tonight’s ceremony. Much of that work happens quietly behind the scenes, but it made all the difference.

Thank you as well to everyone who attended, participated, provided refreshments, donated their time or resources, and helped us honor the lives lost and the courage, sacrifice, and unity that followed September 11.

This memorial now has a renewed home in Memorial Park, but its purpose remains the same:

We remember. We honor. We will never forget. 🇺🇸

Town of Orland Announces Marshal Transition

At the August 26th meeting of the Orland Town Council, the Council formally acknowledged and accepted the resignation of Town Marshal Brad Kline, effective September 9, 2026.

Brad has served the Town of Orland and our community with dedication, professionalism, and a genuine commitment to public service. While we are certainly sorry to see him leave his role as Town Marshal, we are very proud to see him take this next step in his career. Brad will begin a new role in January as Chief Deputy Sheriff for Steuben County, and the Town of Orland extends our sincere congratulations and full support as he takes on this new responsibility.

We are grateful for Brad’s service to Orland and wish him nothing but success in this next chapter. We know Steuben County will continue to benefit from his experience, leadership, and commitment to the people he serves.

During the same meeting, the Town Council appointed current Orland Police Department Deputy Jackson Spires to serve as the next Town Marshal. Jackson was officially sworn in following his appointment, with his term as Marshal becoming effective September 10, 2026.

Jackson has already been serving our community as a member of the Orland Police Department, and the Council has full confidence in his ability to step into this leadership role. His familiarity with our Town, our department, and our residents will help provide a smooth transition and continued stability for the Orland Police Department.

Please join the Town of Orland in thanking Brad Kline for his service and congratulating him on his new role, and in welcoming and congratulating Jackson Spires as our next Town Marshal.

We are fortunate to have two dedicated public servants moving forward into new opportunities, and we wish them both continued success.

The Indiana Department of Natural Resources (DNR) will be laying new gravel along the shared entrance drive and throughout the park.

If you are planning to visit, please keep the following safety updates in mind:

Drive Cautiously: Take extra care when entering and exiting the park, as roads will have loose gravel and active crews.

Watch for Heavy Traffic: Expect increased truck traffic and heavy equipment moving in and around the park entrance.

Give Workers Room: Slow down and stay alert around work vehicles and machinery.

The project will start today 8/28/26 and continue through Monday 8/31/26.

Welcome to August, Orland! ☀️🌽

Can you believe we’re flipping the calendar page to August already? Summer might be coasting into its final stretch, but we’re far from done soaking up the sunshine here in town.

Whether you’re spending these warm summer days out on the water, catching up with neighbors on the porch, or stocking up on fresh Indiana sweet corn, August is all about making every moment count.

🎒 Back-to-School & Road Safety:
Hard to believe, but the first day of school is right around the corner on Tuesday, August 11th! As our local students, teachers, and staff gear up for a great year ahead, let's keep our community safe:

Watch your speed through town—keep an extra eye out for children walking, biking, or waiting for buses in the mornings and afternoons.

Stop for school buses! When those yellow flashing lights come on and the red stop-arm extends, drivers in both directions must come to a complete stop.

Let's all do our part to keep our young neighbors safe as they head back to class!

Got any big plans, family traditions, or fun projects on your schedule before summer wraps up? Drop a comment below and tell us what you're looking forward to most this month!

Here’s to a safe, sunny, and wonderful August, Orland! 💛✨
