MAYOR'S STORM RECOVERY & PREPAREDNESS UPDATE ---
Neighbors,
Thank you again for your patience and resilience following the severe storms we experienced on Wednesday and Thursday. We know many households are still without power and coping with downed trees and debris. Our Public Works, Parks, Police, and Emergency Management teams have been working nonstop to clear hazards, clear storm drains, and support restoration efforts.
Power Restoration & ComEd Coordination
The severe storms caused significant damage and have left more than 663,000 customers without power throughout ComEd’s territory. As of this morning, roughly 488,000 customers have been restored with roughly 174,000 remaining. In Orland Park, ComEd is currently showing 1,896 customers without power - down from the peak of 6,230 - indicating steady progress as crews address multiple small pockets of damage. I have been in direct contact with ComEd and will continue to push for restoration timelines and prioritization of critical areas.
Cooling Center – Orland Park Police Department
If you need air conditioning, charging for medical equipment or phones, or a safe place to cool down, the Orland Park Police Department is our primary cooling center. The Orland Park Police Department is located at 15100 S Ravinia Ave, Orland Park, IL 60462. Please bring essential medications and any medical devices you may need. If you rely on powered medical equipment (e.g., for dialysis), the cooling center can provide access to electricity.
What Our Teams Are Doing Right Now
• Today and tomorrow, Public Works crews will continue chipping branches in all zones and clearing debris from storm drains.
• Water systems remain operational with three pump stations operating on backup power.
Safety Reminders
• Stay away from downed power lines and report them to ComEd immediately at 1 800 EDISON 1.
• Use extra caution when approaching work zones; slow down and watch for crews and equipment.
• If using generators at home, operate them outdoors and away from windows to prevent carbon monoxide buildup.
Traffic
• Barricades remain in place at 143rd Place & Brook due to downed power lines. Please avoid the area.
• Traffic Signals Currently Impacted:
- 131st & LaGrange Rd
- 131st & Southwest Highway
- 151st & Harlem Ave
- 143rd & Wolf Rd
- 153rd & West Ave
• If you approach an intersection where the traffic signal is not functioning, treat it as a four‑way stop. Please slow down, be alert, and give our crews room to work.
How to Get Updates
• Check ComEd’s outage map and alerts for restoration status.
• Call Public Works (708.403.6350) or the Police Department’s non-emergency line (708.349.4111) if you need assistance.
Thank you for supporting your neighbors, looking out for vulnerable residents, and giving crews room to work. We’ll keep sharing updates as we receive them.
