Dear Neighbors,
I would like to thank you for applying for the tax rebate. I hope the application process was smooth and quick while applying at Georgios Banquet and Quality Inn. Much thought was given to the streamlining of this historic event.
We have tallied the applications that were received during the week of January 6-11. The number of households that applied was 957. These 957 residents were the individuals who met the requirements set forth in the Ordinance approved by the Board of Trustees, which is the law in the Village of Orland Hills.
Below is the breakdown on how the tax rebate will be calculated:
$500,000 divided by 957 approved applications = $522.47
Here are the scenarios of the tax rebates:
Scenario #1
If you pay $522.47 or less in property tax to the Village of Orland Hills, you will receive a check for the amount of tax you paid to the Village of Orland Hills. The difference of the $522.47 minus the tax you paid will be placed into a line item fund for the next tax refund. In this scenario, you will receive a rebate for all the municipal tax and essentially pay nothing for municipal services.
Scenario #2
If you pay $522.47 or more in property tax to the Village of Orland Hills, you will receive a check for $522.47. This is the maximum amount based on our formula. The difference between the amount you pay for taxes and the rebate amount will be one of the lowest amounts of municipal taxes in the State of Illinois.
Our Village staff has calculated the amount for each household. Then we have double checked each amount for accuracy. The checks will be inserted in an envelope for disbursement during the week of March 3-8.
The distribution of the checks will be Monday, March 3 through Saturday, March 8. On Monday-Friday, the time to pick up the check will be from 1 pm - 7 pm and Saturday will be from 10 am - 2 pm. The location for pick up will be at Georgios Banquet and Quality Inn.
I and the entire Board of Trustees are very excited to present the rebate tax checks to our neighbors. We have improved our Village in many ways throughout the years. Now Orland Hills is one of a few municipalities in the State of Illinois to say “we rebate tax money” when you live in our town!
