Due to increased wildfire risk, the N.C. Forest Service has issued a ban on all open burning and has canceled all burning permits statewide effective 6 p.m. Saturday, March 28 until further notice.

Under North Carolina law, the ban prohibits all open burning in the affected counties, regardless of whether a permit was previously issued. The issuance of any new permits has also been suspended until the ban is lifted. Anyone violating the burn ban faces a $100 fine plus $183 court costs. Any person responsible for setting a fire may be liable for any expenses related to extinguishing the fire.

The burn ban does not apply to fires started within 100 feet of an occupied dwelling. The local fire marshal has authority to issue a burn ban within those 100 feet.

Congratulations to Dave Farmer, the 2025 SPVFD Station 19 firefighter of the year! We can't thank him enough for his hard work and dedication to the department and OUR community. Well done!

Two of our other members were also recognized by other departments that they serve on.

Brandon Phibbons was named firefighter of the year for the City of Washington FD
Mike Guzzo was named volunteer firefighter of the year for Pine Knoll Shores FD

Not surprisingly, both of these dedicated individuals have been voted firefighter of the year for our department in the past.

Congratulations to these guys and thank you for your hard work and dedication to the citizens of eastern North Carolina!

👉INCREASED FIRE DANGER JAN. 15, 2026 – POSTPONE OUTDOOR BURNING👈

Due to low relative humidity, dry fuels and windy conditions, fire danger is elevated across North Carolina. Outdoor burning is NOT recommended. Dry grasses, dead leaves and other vegetative debris could easily ignite and spread quickly.

Spread prevention, not wildfire.

🎯Contact your local NCFS county ranger before burning outdoors. https://bit.ly/3lpoWR0

Santa has one more night in town before heading back to the north pole!
Starting tonight around five in the vicinity of Dollar General and working our way through the village down towards The Bean.
Tonight's route involves a lot of circling around, criss- crossing of Broad Street, etc. so if it looks like we did not come down your street we might be coming back around to you.

Southeast Pamlico VFD annual Santa ride time!! 18th, 19th, 20th (21st as rain date)

As always, we TRY to cover as much of our district as possible, but simply can not go down every single street or slow down for every single house not knowing if someone is home. If you live down a narrow, dead end, or minimally populated street, please consider coming out to a main road (maybe in a heated car to wait). You will hear the sirens coming. Feel free to message us your location ahead of time, names of kids, etc. and we will do what we can. Little kids & "big" kids alike! Santa is happy to give a shout out to all!

Santa and company will be leaving the station at `~4:30 pm each night and ending between 8-9pm.

The routes (especially in town) sometimes "zig-zag" or loop around. In other words, if it seems like we missed you, we might be coming back around from another direction. The routes can be tricky to plan!

Each day we will try and post a rough idea of our route.

Thursday Dec 18th: Neighborhoods in area of:
Other side of the bridge (Sail Loft, Racoon, Horton etc.)
China Grove
Janeiro Rd
Teaches Cove
Kershaw

Friday Dec 19th: Neighborhoods in area of:
White Farm
Dolphin Pt.
Orchard Crk
Pamlico Rd
River Dunes

Saturday Dec 20st: Neighborhoods in area of:
Village of Oriental
Midyette St
Silverbrook
Blackwell Pt
Sunday Dec 21st will be our rain date if we have to cancel a night due to weather. Changes will be posted on FB and Towndock.net
Happy Holidays from all of us at Southeast Pamlico VFD Station 19!

Use common sense and do not burn (permit or not) when....
-brush/grass etc are dry
-humidity is very low
-WINDS will be significant and forecast to increase

Today is the perfect example of a day NOT to burn in your yard.

Several local "burn piles" have turned into large brush fires this week. Thankfully, no injuries or major property loss.
Let's keep it that way, don't become a statistic!

Chief Eric Kindle welcomed our fire fighters along with local leaders and supporters to the annual fire department appreciation dinner at River Dunes . A few honors were given out, starting with Ian Davis and Ken Belangia for years of dedicated and incredible service to our community. They will be missed, and we wish them the very best in their new adventures. Chief Kindle also recognized .tim and Deli and subs for all the support over the years. Tim and his efforts for fundraising for our department have been nothing less than incredible. Lastly, Bill Kepp was proudly named Firefighter of the Year. Congrats to all, and thank you to all of our volunteers who serve our community.

Southeast Pamlico VFD annual Santa ride time!!!!
Santa and company will be leaving the station at `~4:30 pm each night and ending between 8-9pm.

If you would like to refresh Santa's memory, please message us with your address and names of any children at that location.

We will try and visit as many streets as possible, but can't go down every single one due to time etc. If you have kids/grandkids and live on a remote/small street please consider standing (or sitting in a warm car) at the end of your road. You will hear the sirens coming!
Each day we will try and post a rough idea of our route.
