This week, classified employees gathered in solidarity. Yesterday, we carried that support into the bargaining room, with great faculty support as well.

Our message is simple:

We are united for our students.
We are united for our coworkers.
We are united for a fair contract.

Every red shirt reminds the College that the bargaining team is not standing alone. We represent classified employees across campus, and faculty stand with us. Together, we are stronger.

Wear red. Stay informed. Stand with ACE. ✊🌶️

The College lost arbitration after changing classified employees from salaried non-exempt to hourly non-exempt.

Now it is proposing hourly non-exempt status in the next contract.

Different route. Same result.

Classified employees should not have to win the same fight twice.

ACE presents our wages and benefits article tomorrow, 9/9 from 1-3. Show your support for ACE and let the College know that their actions surrounding the arbitration are unacceptable. They cannot continue to operate with impunity.

April 7: ACE won a final-and-binding arbitration award.

July 15: 99 days later, ACE filed a ULP because the College still has not implemented the order.

Workers should not have to win the same fight twice.

Honor the award.

The College is mired in legal disputes.

So when ACE proposed $25 for personal phones the College requires us to use, the College did not think reimbursement.

The College thought subpoena.

When litigation becomes the mindset, every employee proposal looks like the next case.

ACE tried to identify some common ground.

The College cut us off to make sure we knew there wasn’t any.

“No, I have to interrupt you. I did not say I liked the idea.”

Not a courteous clarification. A sharp interruption to shut down any suggestion of openness.

Message received.

We were still presenting:
“…you’ll see how that relates as we get a little bit further down—”

The College interrupted:
“I wouldn’t characterize that as a little change. I think that’s a significant change.”

Hold the commentary and the snap judgment. Listen to what we’re really saying.

The College struck language giving probationary employees at least ten working days to understand a performance problem, respond, and improve.

When ACE reinstated the language, the College said supervisors have usually decided to terminate by then. It called removing that opportunity “more trauma-informed.”

Ending someone’s livelihood is not made kinder by giving them less notice, less voice, and less agency.

Trauma-informed practice centers safety, transparency, collaboration, empowerment, voice, and choice. The College’s approach centers a decision already made.

Do not use the language of care to sanitize taking away worker protections.

ACE explained the harm of making employees wait from April evaluations until October to submit reclassification requests.

We don’t believe that it aligns with our employees’ best interests. The College made it explicitly clear: “What it aligns with is the budget process.”

Once again, our message was interrupted and diminished by the College’s administrative rationale.

A process is not fair merely because it is easier for the College.

The CBA says an arbitrator’s decision “shall be final and binding.”

On July 15, ACE filed an unfair labor practice complaint because the College has failed to implement the April 7 award. ACE asked ERB to enforce the award, order an immediate return, and provide other appropriate relief.

Honor the award.
