Intermittent smoke is expected in eastern Clackamas County starting today, Monday, Aug. 31, until the afternoon of Wednesday, Sept. 2. Check your local air quality at https://www.airnow.gov/ Even if you can't see or smell smoke, it can still impact your health. Children, older adults, pregnant people, and those with heart or lung conditions are especially vulnerable, but everyone should take steps to protect themselves when air quality is unhealthy:

Keep indoor air clean 🏠
• Close doors and windows.
• Use air purifiers if available.
• Set your air conditioning to recirculate.
• Avoid smoking, using wood-burning stoves or fireplaces, lighting candles, or vacuuming, as these activities can worsen indoor air quality.

Reduce time spent outdoors 🏃‍♂️
• Shift to indoor exercise.
• If you must spend time outdoors, consider wearing an N95 respirator.
• Keep pets indoors when possible.

Take care of your body 💪
• Drink plenty of water
• If you are having symptoms like headaches, fatigue, and/or coughing, find clean air if possible
• If you are having chest pain or difficulty breathing, call 911

Estacada Hazmat Incident Update (as of 12:00pm 8/26):

Following an assessment from regional Hazmat teams on-scene, the Estacada Fire, Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Estacada Police Department have reduced the Level 3 evacuation area to a 150ft radius from the incident.

An updated Everbridge message has been published.

Residents within a 1/2 mile radius of the Hazmat incident are being requested to evacuate immediately. If you received an alert, evacuate now.

Limited details are available at this time.

UPDATE from Estacada Fire District (Aug. 26, 12:42 p.m.) -- "The hazardous material incident has been mitigated and there is no longer a threat to the public. All evacuations have been lifted. All fire and hazmat units are clearing the incident."

EARLIER (Weds., Aug. 26, 2026, 11:35 a.m.): Hazmat teams from Gresham Fire and Clackamas Fire have arrived and completed an assessment. The evacuation area has been retracted to an area of 150 feet in all directions around the incident site.

Per Estacada Fire District, "this is a a hazardous materials incident at 30395 Veterans Boulevard in Estacada. There is a 55 gallon drum of a volatile chemical expanding and venting." The public should continue to avoid the area.

ALERT (Wednesday, Aug. 26, 10:30 a.m.): This is a hazardous materials emergency alert from Clackamas County Sheriff's Office and Estacada Fire District. Level 3 - GO NOW!

Evacuate immediately from the following areas:

Veterans Boulevard and South East River Mill Road.

Everyone within a half-mile of that location should immediately evacuate the area. Details to come.

⚠️ UPDATE: Clackamas County Sheriff's Office has lifted the Level 1 evacuation zones for the Grasshopper Fire. While the fire is still active, fire response and containment conditions continue to improve.

The public is advised to continue to stay informed about fire activity and to become familiar with evacuation levels if conditions change.
