Last Friday, our BIPOC Youth Council cooked up a feast for a little end-of-week cultural celebration. With the guidance and support of our Cultural Ecology Program Manager, the youth prepared everything from the rice and beans to the salsas, including Salsa de Aguacate, grilled cactus and carnitas. Yum!!!

We are humbled and honored to be 2026 Urban Land Institute Americas “Awards for Excellence” winner alongside some incredible and much bigger community projects. We knew that when we started out on this project that it would not be easy. But we set our sights VERY high as we believed that our nation's most vulnerable children deserve the very highest level of care and in an environment that nurtures, heals and propels them to succeed. With an incredible team of visionaries and experts we made our dream come true and delivered on our promise to kids.

This award is a recognition that all children deserve dignity and every opportunity to succeed. Not just the 1%.

We hope this recognition allows other child-serving organizations, other communities, other cities, states and even countries to dream big, believe it is possible, and deliver what is needed for kids.

Our children are our future. Thank you ULI for recognizing this.

We were honored to host a tour of our residential campus and offer a deep dive into our Indigenous-led Cultural Ecology Program for the Willamette Falls Trust, Leslie Mason, CFRE, Kate Brown, Elisandra Garcia, Zeljka Carol Kekez, and the summer interns at PLACE. Always fun and inspiring to share ideas with like-minded, values-led, community-centered leaders, thinkers and dreamers🥰.

On Monday, we had the distinct honor of hosting our friends and partners from the Spirit Mountain Community Fund along with two of their high school summer interns. We gave them a deep dive into our Cultural Ecology Program, a tour of our residential campus and then a walk through kʰanumakwst chaku-łush, the Chinuk Wawa name of our property, for a little exploration of the flora and fauna. Thank you!
