The McLoughlin Memorial Association is Oregon City's oldest civic organization, founded in 1909, and dedicated to helping preserve and interpret the historic places of Oregon City and Clackamas County. For nearly a century the MMA restored and cared for the house of Dr. John McLoughlin, Chief Factor of the Columbia District for Hudson
's Bay Company and mayor of Oregon City. The house is now under the care of the National Park Service, which administers it as part of Fort Vancouver National Historic Site. The MMA maintains a presence at the Barclay House, next door to the McLoughlin House- 713 & 719 Center Street in Oregon City. Hours are general from 10 am to 4 pm Friday and Saturday. Tours of the McLoughlin House are free, however donations are gladly accepted. The McLoughlin Memorial Association' owns the historic 1847 William L. Holmes House on Holmes Lane in Oregon City. Also known as Rose Farm, the Holmes House is the oldest American house in all of Oregon City, as well as one of the oldest houses in all of the state of Oregon. The Rose Farm Museum offers tours of the 1847 home of William Livingston Holmes and his wife, Louisa. They were one of the early American pioneer families, and their home was the center of many local social events. Governor Lane delivered his inaugural address as the Oregon Territory's first governor from the upstairs porch of the home. William Holmes also donated the land for the historic Mountain View Cemetery, Oregon City's first cemetery. The Rose Farm is open on Fridays & Saturdays, 12:00 - 4:00 p.m. Admission is $4.00 for seniors, $3.00 for adults, $3.00 for youths (age 6-17), and free for children 5 and under. Tours take approximately 45 minutes. The house has limited accessibility due to stairs. See website and page for current opening for the summer season.
