🇺🇸 NEVER FORGET — SEPTEMBER 11, 2001 🇺🇸
Today, the officers and members of the Windom Volunteer Fire Company pause to remember the lives lost on September 11, 2001.
We honor the 2,977 innocent lives taken that day, including the 343 FDNY firefighters, 23 NYPD officers, 37 Port Authority Police officers, and all of the first responders who answered the call without hesitation.
Twenty-five years later, we remember their courage, their sacrifice, and the countless acts of heroism that emerged from one of our nation's darkest days.
To our brothers and sisters who climbed the stairs while others were coming down — we will never forget you.
May we also remember all those who have suffered and lost their lives in the years since from illnesses related to their service at Ground Zero.

🚒 Introducing the New Windom 4! 🚒

Windom Volunteer Fire Company is proud to announce the purchase of our new Windom 4—A 2026 Can-Am Defender MAX DPS CAB HD10 UTV equipped for fire suppression and emergency response. This new unit will replace our current Kubota UTV.

Windom 4 will be used primarily during Buffalo Bills home games, allowing our firefighters to quickly navigate the stadium property and surrounding areas where traditional fire apparatus may have limited access. It will also serve other community events throughout the Town of Orchard Park and support responses to brush fires, search-and-rescue operations, severe-weather emergencies, and incidents involving difficult terrain.

Windom 4 is equipped with:

🔹 An 85-gallon QTAC fire-suppression skid unit
🔹 Honda-powered pump capable of flowing up to 73 gallons per minute
🔹 75-foot hose with a manual hose reel
🔹 Upgraded Viper firefighting nozzle
🔹 Heavy-duty winch and dual-battery system
🔹 Front and rear protective equipment
🔹 Whelen CORE emergency lighting and control system
🔹 54-inch Whelen Legacy lightbar
🔹 Full-perimeter scene lighting
🔹 Whelen emergency siren
🔹 Mobile-radio equipment and custom graphics

This important purchase would not have been possible without the grant funding received for this project. We are extremely grateful for the support that allowed us to replace our Kubota and obtain this valuable new resource.

We also extend our sincere appreciation to Ken's Service and Sales for supplying and outfitting the Can-Am, FM Communications, Inc. for completing the emergency lighting and graphics, and Mtech Inc for supplying the QTAC Fire suppression skid unit.

Windom 4 will be placed into service after we install the necessary hand tools and complete in-service training for our members. Once in service, this investment will improve our ability to respond quickly and effectively while protecting Bills fans, stadium personnel, and the entire Orchard Park community.

On behalf of the officers and members of the Windom Fire Company, we extend our deepest condolences to the Schenck family and to the members of Seneca Hose Company #1 during this incredibly difficult time.

Our thoughts and prayers are with the entire Seneca Hose family. During times like these, the strength and brotherhood of the fire service mean more than words can express. Please know that we stand beside you and are here for you as brothers and sisters in the fire service.

It is with great sadness that we notify you of the loss of one of our members, Tyler Schenck, who passed away in an accident last evening.

Tyler was not only a valued and respected member of our organization, but also a member of the Erie County Department of Health, EMS Division; the Erie County Department of Homeland Security & Emergency Services, Hazardous Materials Response Team; and Hamburg EMS, as well as a former member of Reserve Fire Company.

At approximately 2200 hours on August 22, 2026, emergency personnel responded to a single-vehicle motor vehicle accident in the Town of Elma. Members of the Blossom Vol. Fire Company, Spring Brook Fire District #1, Erie County EMS, and the Erie County Sheriff’s Office responded and worked together to manage the incident.

Tyler was described by those who knew and worked alongside him as lovable, lighthearted, and a passionate EMS provider who genuinely cared about everyone he met. During his time serving in the fire and EMS communities, Tyler made a meaningful impact on his coworkers, fellow first responders, and the people he served. His loss will be deeply felt throughout our public safety, fire, and EMS communities. Our deepest condolences go out to the Schenck family, Tyler’s friends, and his fellow members during this incredibly difficult time.

At approximately 2:57 pm today, the Orchard Park Fire District was notified of a potential structure fire. Initial units found heavy fire on the number 3 side upon arrival. With all residents accounted for and evacuated, and no life safety concerns identified, operations transitioned to defensive mode. Due to structural instability, an emergency demolition order was issued. The Orchard Park Fire District received support from various agencies for mutual aid at the scene and backfilling stations throughout the town of Orchard Park.

This morning at approximately 1133hrs Windom with mutual aid from Orchard Park Fire Company, Hillcrest Volunteer Fire Company and Orchard Park Fire District EMS were alerted for a rollover MVC with possible vehicle fire at the intersection of Milestrip and California. Newton Abbott Fire Company, Inc. Was in the area as they were returning from a call and offered their assistance. Upon arrival units determined there was no fire and one vehicle on its side with an occupant trapped inside. Crews from the Orchard Park Fire District worked together stabilizing the vehicle and removing the windshield to safely extricate the patient with care being turned over to Orchard Park EMS. At 07:59 hours this morning, the Windom Fire Department responded to a reported vehicle fire on Southwestern Boulevard. Upon arrival, Windom 9-3 confirmed a fire in the engine compartment. Due to limited personnel, a mutual aid request was made to Orchard Park Fire Company. Windom 9 and 9-1 arrived shortly thereafter, with W9-1 assuming command. Firefighters from Orchard Park's Engine 11 and Windom successfully extinguished the fire, which was confined to the single vehicle.
