The Orange Police Department mourns the passing of retired Detective Raymond J. Carolonza, who passed away peacefully on August 12, 2026, at the age of 81.

Detective Carolonza lived a life defined by service, courage, discipline, and an unwavering commitment to protecting others. At just 19 years old, he answered the call to serve his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam War, later continuing his military service in the United States Army Reserve.

Following his military service, Raymond returned home and began a distinguished career with the Orange Police Department, serving our community as both a Police Officer and Detective. An accomplished sharpshooter, he competed throughout the country and earned the prestigious President's Hundred Award for his marksmanship.

His service to others continued long after his law enforcement career, but above all, Raymond was a devoted husband, father, stepfather, grandfather, friend, and proud Vietnam veteran. His unmistakable personality, stories, humor, loyalty, and fierce love for his family will be remembered by all who had the privilege of knowing him.

We extend our deepest condolences to his wife Joanne, his children, grandchildren, extended family, friends, and all of his former brothers and sisters in law enforcement.

Rest easy, Detective. Your service will not be forgotten. 💙

Don't hurt us in the comments! 😂 We just like to keep our community informed about the law.

NJ has enacted legislation authorizing digital driver’s licenses, but NJMVC has not begun issuing them yet. The MVC is currently developing the technology and security infrastructure needed for the program, with implementation anticipated in early 2029.

When official digital licenses do arrive, there will still be an important distinction: A picture in your camera roll is NOT a digital driver’s license. Your actual driver’s license contains security features that help establish the authenticity of the credential being presented. A photograph on a phone does not provide the same ability to examine and verify those physical security features.

Under N.J.S.A. 39:3-29, a driver’s license must be in your possession while operating a motor vehicle.

The foundation of policing is Patrol. It’s the bread and butter of every PD! Patrol is where officers learn how to talk to people, recognize when something isn't right, apply the law, make difficult decisions under pressure, and develop the instincts that only come with experience. Being hired as a Detective would actually put you at a disadvantage.

We get it! You watch detectives on TV solve the case in 45 minutes and think, “I can do that!” But real detective work is extremely challenging, and becoming a good investigator starts long before you ever enter the Detective Bureau.

OK, NEIGHBORS!

After weeks of learning, teamwork, leadership, and unforgettable experiences, it's time to celebrate the accomplishments of our 2026 Orange Junior Public Safety Academy Class!

Throughout the academy, these outstanding young men and women trained alongside members of the Orange Police Department and Orange Fire Department, gaining a firsthand look at what it means to serve, lead, and protect a community. From physical fitness and team-building exercises to hands-on public safety demonstrations, they've embraced every challenge with enthusiasm and determination.

We invite family, friends, and members of our community to join us as we recognize their hard work and celebrate their successful completion of the 2026 Junior Public Safety Academy.
