Last weekend, our annual Cemetery Walk brought members of our community together for a day filled with conversation, remembrance, and connection.

It was a beautiful spring afternoon as guests from Orange and neighboring communities joined us to explore local history, share personal stories, and reflect on the lives and legacies that have shaped our community.

Thank you to everyone who attended, and to our Board Members for sharing their time and stories with our guests.

We look forward to continuing this annual tradition and welcoming you to our next Cemetery Walk.

The Ashworth Act, passed by the Republic of Texas Congress on December 12, 1840, exempted specific free Black families-primarily the Ashworths- and other free people of color residing in Texas before the 1836 independence declaration from a February 1840 law forcing them to leave or be enslaved. This legislation protected these families due to their established community standing and support from white neighbors.
