Succession planning is essential at the Orange City Fire Department, and constant staffing ensures the required number of firefighters are on duty and ready to respond 24 hours a day, 365 days a year, even as personnel retire, promote or take leave.

Following recent retirements, we are proud to announce the promotions of Firefighter/Paramedic Navia and Firefighter/Paramedic Randall to Fire Captain. Please join us in congratulating them as they step into their new leadership roles!

A tradition rooted in training, service and brotherhood. Recently Fire Chief Alan Velasco joined Orange City Firefighters as they volunteered their time to travel to our Sister City of Querétaro, Mexico, for the annual Día del Bombero celebration.

The ceremony marked an important milestone for Querétaro’s probationary firefighters as they completed two years of training and officially entered the fire service.

During the visit, our firefighters volunteered their time and experience to train alongside Bomberos Querétaro in live fire scenarios and multi-company operations. Together, the departments shared firefighting tactics and operational strategies while strengthening communication, coordination and teamwork.

We are proud of our firefighters for giving their time to support this longstanding partnership and our shared commitment to professional growth, brotherhood and service.

The Orange International Street Fair is here, and thankfully, the weather has cooled down just in time!

An event this size doesn’t happen without months of planning, hard work and coordination. Orange City Fire is proud to work alongside our partners in City of Orange Community & Library Services, Public Work and departments throughout the City to get everything moving and grooving for a safe and successful weekend.

For more than 15 years, our Fire Prevention team has helped kick off Street Fair weekend by preparing breakfast for the employees and partners working behind the scenes. It’s a tradition we look forward to each year and a small way to show our appreciation for everyone who comes together to make this special Orange tradition possible.

Firehouse Friday | Did You Know?

The City of Orange is protected by eight fire stations strategically located across approximately 27 square miles and serving nearly 139,000 residents.

Each station is an essential part of one connected citywide response system, positioning firefighters, paramedics, apparatus and lifesaving equipment throughout our community.

From medical emergencies and structure fires to traffic collisions, hazardous conditions and wildland incidents, our stations work together to provide coverage throughout Orange 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.

Wildfire | Heat Update

Orange City Fire personnel continue supporting wildfire operations outside our area while conditions here at home remain hot.

MP18 FIRE | HOOPA, CA
7,610 acres | 93% contained

Crews continue making progress on the MP18 Fire. All evacuation orders and warnings have been lifted, and firefighters are working to secure the incident and complete suppression repair.

FRIJOLES FIRE | SANTA FE, NM
15,333 acres | 59% contained

More than 800 personnel remain assigned to the Frijoles Fire. Crews continue strengthening containment lines, monitoring areas of remaining heat and fire activity, and mopping up secured portions of the perimeter.

HERE AT HOME

The City of Orange remains under an Extreme Heat Warning through 8 p.m. today, with temperatures approaching 100 degrees.

Please help us prevent emergencies before they happen:

• Stay hydrated and limit strenuous outdoor activity during the hottest part of the day.
• Check on children, older adults and neighbors who may be more vulnerable to heat.
• Never leave children or pets inside a parked vehicle.
• Avoid mowing dry vegetation or using equipment that can create sparks during the hottest part of the day.
• Secure trailer chains and never park vehicles over dry vegetation.
• If you see smoke or fire, call 911 immediately.

While OFD personnel continue supporting wildfire operations outside the area, Orange City Fire remains staffed and ready to respond here at home and throughout our neighboring communities.

Timber Fire | Big Sur

Orange City Fire personnel continue supporting operations on the Timber Fire in Big Sur, where crews are working through steep, rugged terrain and an increasingly active fire environment.

The fire saw significant growth yesterday, increasing more than 4,000 acres.

23,343 acres
26% contained

While the increase in containment is encouraging, the Timber Fire remains active and challenging. A Red Flag Warning is in effect today due to the potential for thunderstorms and lightning across the Big Sur coast and Los Padres National Forest.

Crews continue working to strengthen containment lines, conduct strategic firing operations and protect communities throughout the affected area.

Timber Fire Update | Big Sur

Orange City Fire personnel assigned with Strike Team 1863 have checked in and are now working the Timber Fire near Big Sur.

Crews are assigned to a 24-hour operational period, supporting firing operations and mop up as firefighters continue strengthening containment lines across the incident.

The Timber Fire has burned 5,189 acres and is 17% contained. The fire began August 8 southeast of Loma Vista in Monterey County and continues to challenge crews with steep, rugged terrain along the Big Sur coast.

As operations progress, base camp is also expected to relocate later this week.

Making Waves for Drowning Prevention 🌊⚾️

Tuesday night, Orange City Fire, Orange City Firefighters, Anaheim Fire & Rescue, Anaheim Firefighters and Rady Children’s Health | Orange County joined the Julie Lopiccolo on the Wave Maker Tour for a tailgate party before cheering on the Los Angeles Angels at Angel Stadium, all while helping share an important message about drowning prevention.

The Jasper Ray Foundation was created in memory of Jasper St. Clair, who tragically drowned at just 21 months old. Since then, his family has turned that loss into a mission to educate families about water safety and the layers of protection that can help prevent drowning.

Jasper’s dad, Jonathan St. Clair, is now taking that message across the country with the Wave Maker Tour, visiting 30 Major League Baseball stadiums in 30 days to raise awareness and start conversations about drowning prevention.

Drowning can happen quickly and silently. Constant supervision, barriers around pools, swim lessons, and CPR knowledge can all help reduce the risk.

What an incredible afternoon bringing fire service, healthcare, baseball and our community together for a cause that can truly save lives.

Orange City Fire continues to support wildfire operations across California, Oregon and Washington, with personnel currently assigned in a variety of roles.

From strike team operations and firefighter rescue support to medical leadership and incident management, our personnel continue working alongside agencies from across the region.

And every once in a while, you run into a few familiar faces. Orange and Anaheim Fire & Rescue personnel crossed paths at the Grasshopper Fire in Oregon, a great reminder that even hundreds of miles from home, the fire service is a pretty small world.

Here’s where our personnel are currently assigned:

GRASSHOPPER FIRE | OREGON
57,087 acres | 23% contained
OFD personnel continue to support the incident as part of a collaborative REMS team with Anaheim Fire & Rescue, along with two Medical Unit Leaders.

LITTLE GIANT FIRE | WASHINGTON
116,956 acres | 2% contained
An OFD Battalion Chief continues to support the incident as part of the incident management team.

RIDGE FIRE | GORMAN, CALIFORNIA
1,134 acres | 85% contained
OES Engine 1315 has been demobilized and will be returning home.

While these resources remain deployed, Orange City Fire remains staffed and ready to respond to emergencies in our city and neighboring jurisdictions.

We will continue to share updates on our personnel as their assignments progress.

From one fire to the next. Strike Team 1890C is on the move again, this time assigned to the Ridge Fire burning near Gorman along the Los Angeles and Kern County line.

The fire has burned more than 1,000 acres and is currently 30% contained. Crews continue working to strengthen containment lines and protect nearby communities. Interstate 5 is currently open in both directions.

While our personnel are deployed, Orange City Fire remains staffed and ready to respond in Orange and our neighboring communities.

We will continue to share updates on our personnel as their assignment progresses.
