Captain Dan Adams will make an outstanding Police Chief

Dan Adams Appointed Orange’s Next Police Chief

Captain Dan Adams, who began his law enforcement career with the City of Orange Police Department thirty-one years ago, has been appointed as the City’s new Chief of Police, effective July 4th, 2021. Adams will replace Chief Tom Kisela who is retiring on July 3rd after 35 years with the Orange Police Department, including the last five as the Chief of Police.

While providing an essential public safety perspective to the City’s management team, Adams will be responsible for continuing the community’s high level of policing services and ongoing development of successful public safety outreach programs.

Throughout Adams’ career, he worked a wide variety of assignments. As Captain, he most recently commanded the department’s largest division, Field Services, where he was responsible for over 130 employees and managed the department’s Patrol services, Traffic Bureau, Neighborhood Enhancement Team, Homeless Engagement Team, Communications Center, and the SWAT Team. Adams’ efforts have been instrumental in leading the City’s outreach to the homeless. Prior to his time in Field Services, Adams led the Support Services Division where he was directly responsible for the department’s budget, hiring and training, crime prevention and Homeland Security.

“Dan Adams has had a long and distinguished record of exemplary service to the citizens of Orange,” said City of Orange Mayor Mark A. Murphy. “Orange is one of the safest cities in Orange County thanks to the hard work of the Orange Police Department, and we expect this trend to continue under the leadership of Chief Adams.”

Adams was born and raised in Orange and is a graduate of Orange High School. He and his wife, Lesly, have two adult sons. Adams spent many years as a youth hockey coach where he focused on mentoring kids with character based values. Adams has a bachelor’s degree in Criminal Justice Management and has attended many intensive leadership programs throughout his career, including the distinguished Sherman Block Supervisory Leadership Institute and Executive Management courses.

“Serving the Orange Police Department for the last thirty-one years alongside so many remarkable men and women has been a privilege,” said Adams. “And now, having the opportunity to lead the department’s crime reduction efforts while continuing to build our relationships with the community, is truly an honor.”

Exciting News from Orange City Fire Department, they are welcoming 13 new recruits to the Fire Fighter family. Being a recruit is tough busniess. They have so much to learn beyond the training they have already received. At this point they will learn to depend upon their training and depend on each other as they develop their skills in fire fighting and life safety. With 13 people coming in, they are ushering in the next generation of Firemen in Orange.

I encourage everyone in Orange to read this, Supervisor Don Wagner has been so generous to the people of our city, and this act of kindness to the Youth Center is just the latest example of his kindness

Next up for our Third District non-profit grant series: Youth Centers of Orange. Because of their diligent work, they received $20,000 for helping low-income families survive financial ruin due to COVID-19.

Grand funds will help enroll additional students into a free "After School Program," providing much-needed snacks for each student. It will also help expand their food pantry and meal baskets beyond YCO families to residents in the Orange Unified School District who are most affected by the pandemic.

Stay tuned for the next grant recipient!

This is what a Mobile Field Hospital can look like.....

As we enter into the Holiday season, we all need to know the true magnitude of this Pandemic and know its affecting our City. Here is the latest information I have...

The three hospitals in our city UCI Medical Center, St Joseph’s, and CHOC are now bearing the brunt of the COVID wave coming from the Thanksgiving holiday weekend. The hospitals are reporting that their COVID related hospitalization are at an all-time high and that this spike ramped up significantly in the past two weeks. UCI Medical Center currently has over 100 COVID patients while St. Joseph’s is over 150. UCI is in the process of installing a COVID surge facility adjacent to their ER in order to increase the number of COVID beds they have. They are currently working with OC Health and the state to locate the additional medical staff they need to support the additional beds.

St. Joseph's Hospital is not planning on installing a surge facility at this time, partially because they don’t have the medical staff to support it nor do they have the space to install it. St. Joseph has converted general hospital space within the hospital to support the additional COVID operations. CHOC Hospital is not experiencing the impact the other hospitals are experiencing at this time, rather it may serve as a secondary location to St Joseph.

All three hospitals are reporting that their medical staff is being stretched due to the case load as well as staffing absences due to COVID exposure and positive cases.

I want to stress that the medical staff at each hospital is dedicated and committed to responding to and beating COVID, and any and all expression of gratitude would be appreciated.

People of Orange, this is where we come in. We are a city but we are also a small town looking out for each other. First of all, wear that mask , wash those hands and stay home, this will slow the pandemic down and help the medical staff.

Next up we will be offering information as to how the public or businesses can donate food or essential items to the health care workers of our city. Watch for that information in the coming days ahead. Stay Orange Strong..
