The Orange Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on August 28, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m, at an undisclosed location in north Orange.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined using data associated with incidents of impaired driving-related collisions and frequency of DUI arrests. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, while also checking drivers for proper licensing. The primary purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected impaired drivers off the road.

“Our community deserves to be safe from the preventable dangers of impaired driving. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare service. The OPD will continue to prioritize the protection of life and property through aggressive enforcement,” said Sergeant Bryce Nielsen.

The Orange Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

The Orange County District Attorney’s Office is hosting an E-Bike and E-Motorcycle Buy Back Event on Sunday, September 13, 2026, at Angel Stadium.

Participants can receive $200–$1,000 gift cards, depending on the classification of the type surrendered.

The goal is simple: get unwanted e-bikes and e-motorcycles off the streets, reduce injuries, and help keep our community safe.

Yesterday, two of our officers joined families at Touch-A-Truck at the Great Park in Irvine!

The event, coordinated with the Ronald McDonald House Orange County and Orange County SC, gave kids and families the chance to get an up-close look at first responder vehicles before heading into a soccer game. We brought the Bearcat, handed out goodies, and had a great time meeting the community.

The orange_elks1475 has generously donated funds to the Orange Police Department toward the purchase of our next K-9. The Lodge has been a tremendous partner to the department, raising funds that have helped purchase approximately eight of our previous police dogs.

We are incredibly grateful for their continued support and partnership. Their generosity helps provide our officers with an important tool that enhances their ability to protect and serve our community while helping keep both our officers and residents safe.

We are excited to announce that our next K-9 handler, Officer Light (holding check), will be receiving his new partner in the near future. We look forward to welcoming the newest member of the Orange Police Department family and are thankful to the Orange Elks Lodge 1475 for helping make this possible.

After 21 years of dedicated service to the Orange Police Department, Detective Augusto “Augie” Rocha is retiring. 👏

From his time as a U.S. Marine to serving as a patrol officer, SWAT operator, crimes against person detective, Honor Guard member, and traffic detective, Augie has built a career defined by professionalism, leadership, compassion, and a commitment to others.

He has investigated some of our most serious cases, led 32 fatal traffic collision investigations, attended more than 100 funerals for fallen officers as a member of our Honor Guard, and helped grow our Shop With A Cop program from serving 20 children to more than 120 each year.

Most importantly, Augie has made a lasting impact on the people he served, his fellow officers, and our community.

Congratulations on an incredible career, Augie. Thank you for 21 years of service, sacrifice, and dedication. We wish you all the best in retirement!
