The Orange Police Department will be conducting a DUI/Driver’s License Checkpoint on October 23, 2026, between the hours of 7:00 p.m. to 2:00 a.m, at an undisclosed location in west Orange.

DUI checkpoint locations are determined using data associated with incidents of impaired driving-related collisions and frequency of DUI arrests. Officers will be looking for signs of alcohol and/or drug impairment, while also checking drivers for proper licensing. The primary purpose of a DUI checkpoint is to promote public safety by taking suspected
impaired drivers off the road.

“Our community deserves to be safe from the preventable dangers of impaired driving. Plan ahead, designate a sober driver, or use a rideshare service. The OPD will continue to prioritize the protection of life and property through aggressive enforcement,” said Sergeant Bryce Nielsen.

The Orange Police Department reminds the public that impaired driving is not just from alcohol. Some prescription medications and over-the-counter drugs may interfere with driving. While medicinal and recreational ma*****na are legal, driving under the influence of ma*****na is illegal.

Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, as well as a suspended license.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety, through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

On September 27, a vehicle was reported stolen in Los Angeles County. Just 24 hours later, a Flock alert helped our officers locate the vehicle near 1900 E. Katella Avenue, leading to the arrest of all three occupants.

The suspects faced charges including possession of a stolen vehicle, theft, drug possession, and possession of burglary tools. One suspect also had an outstanding arrest warrant.

This is another example of how technology and good police work come together to keep our Orange community safe!

🚔 Meet our newest officers! 👏

Today, Officers Ayala, Bernstein, and Earle graduated from the Orange County Sheriff’s Academy after 26 weeks of hard work, training, testing, and plenty of running! They’ve learned what it takes to wear the badge and serve others.

Congratulations to all three! We’re proud to welcome them to the Orange Police Department and can’t wait to see them get out there and serve our amazing city. Welcome to the team! 💙

Sunday Funday looked a little different for our Property Detectives.

Thousands of dollars worth of stolen tools were recovered the SAME DAY they were taken. Both suspects were booked at Orange County Jail.

The City of Orange Police Department announced today that it has received a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety (OTS) to support its ongoing enforcement and education programs to help reduce the number of serious injuries and deaths on our roads.

“Promoting roadway safety requires addressing dangerous behaviors such as impaired or distracted driving and excessive speeding,” said Orange PD Sergeant Bryce Nielsen. “This funding supports proactive enforcement efforts designed to improve driver safety, protect our community, and reduce the number of severe and deadly traffic collisions on our roadways.”

The grant will provide additional programs and resources, including:

· DUI checkpoints and patrols focused on stopping suspected impaired drivers.
· High-visibility distracted driving enforcement operations targeting drivers in violation of California’s hands-free cell phone law.
· Enforcement operations focused on the most dangerous driver behaviors that put the safety of people biking or walking at risk.
· Enforcement operations focused on top driving violations that cause crashes: speeding, failure to yield, stop sign and/or red-light running, and improper turning or lane changes.
· Community presentations on traffic safety issues such as distracted driving, impaired driving, speeding and bicycle and pedestrian safety.
· Collaborative enforcement efforts with neighboring agencies.

“Traffic safety begins with everyday decisions,” OTS Director Stephanie Dougherty said. “When we address the risky driving behaviors that put everyone on the road in danger, including speeding, distraction, and impairment, we can prevent crashes and save lives. By supporting enforcement efforts and educating communities, we’re helping to build a safety culture where looking out for others and safe travel behaviors are the norm.”

The grant program runs through September 2027.

🚔 Stolen car? Not for long!

Last week, our officers responded to a report of a vehicle that had just been stolen. Within 30 minutes, and with the help of our Flock cameras, officers located the vehicle and arrested the suspect.

The vehicle was returned to its rightful owner, and the suspect went to jail. 👏

That’s technology and good police work making a difference and holding offenders accountable!

In August, La Carniceria Meat Market™️ donated their time and food to cook dinner for a fundraiser at the Orange Elks Lodge to help raise money for our next police K9.

The event was a huge success, and thanks to the generosity of everyone involved, orange_elks1475 was able to raise enough money to purchase our next police dog!

Recently, La Carniceria stopped by the Orange Police Department, where Chief Jevec and our K9 team presented them with a plaque and some OPD swag as a thank you for their generosity and support.
