The identification of the deceased black male has been released. He is Niaja Cormier of Houston, TX, originally from Lafayette, LA.

On Sunday, June 9th, 2024, at about 2:28 PM, Pinehurst Police Department received a call from a local citizen who was kayaking in Adam’s Bayou and came upon personal belongings. Officers arrived at the location and located car keys, tennis shoes, and identification. It was found that Mr. Cormier was listed as a missing person on May 29th, 2024 by Beaumont PD and his next of kin was notified. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Niaja Cormier’s family and friends during this time.

On Saturday, June 1, 2024, at 10:46 AM, the Pinehurst Police Department received a report of a deceased subject located in Adams bayou. The body was discovered by fishermen. Pinehurst officers, with the assistance of Orange County Emergency Services District 3 responded to Adams bayou, South of the Interstate 10 turnaround. The body of a black male subject was recovered.
An autopsy has been ordered by Pct. 1, Justice of the Peace Hershel Stagner. The identity of the male subject is unknown at this time. The male has a mustache and other facial hair and has a tattoo on his chest. At this time, there is no foul play suspected, but this case is an ongoing investigation to find his identity.

Scammers are asking people to purchase gift cards, or remove cash from your bank or savings account to give them or deposit into Bitcoin machines. If you are told that someone or a company may access your bank account unless you pay a certain amount, contact your bank and advise them of the phone call. On 9/8/2023 in the early morning hours, officer's were notified of a stolen vehicle and a stolen gun in the 3300 block of Camelot.
