Looking to learn more about the proposed 1% local sales tax referendum for school capital projects? Mark your calendars for these upcoming community engagement sessions.

On November 3, Orange County voters will consider a proposed 1% local sales tax referendum to support eligible school construction, renovation, and modernization projects.

If approved, the revenue could be used only for eligible school capital projects and related financing costs. The additional tax would apply to purchases already subject to Virginia sales tax. Food purchased for human consumption, essential personal hygiene products, and prescription medication would NOT be subject to it.

Join us for an upcoming community engagement session:

📍 Sept. 23 - Districts 4 & 5, Locust Grove Middle School
📍 Sept. 30 - District 3, Orange County High School
📍 Oct. 14 - District 2, Lightfoot Elementary School
📍 Oct. 21 - District 1, Gordon-Barbour Elementary School

All sessions begin at 6:30 p.m. Questions must be submitted in advance using this form: https://forms.gle/WpJDMpvywuaXMv2i9

Today, our Fire & EMS Department honored the memory of those lost 25 years ago through participation in a memorial stair climb and a service hosted by the High School’s JROTC. While we honor them everyday, the anniversary of September 11, 2001, presents a moment for us to express particular appreciation to our nation’s servicemen and women and first responders, who answer the call in our times of greatest need.

Orange County is informing residents that a technical issue prevented the proper recording of the Board of Supervisors meeting held September 8, 2026. As a result, the full recorded video of the meeting is not available in our Agendas & Minutes platform.

📽️ Partial Recording Available
Once Information Technology staff became aware of the issue impacting our usual streaming/recording service, they responded quickly by creating a new recording using an alternative system, which captured almost all of the Public Comment period. Unfortunately, the recording of events prior that point has thus far been unrecoverable.

The video of the Public Comment period has been uploaded to YouTube at https://ow.ly/v5vV50ZLEwI.

Meeting files, including the agenda packet, remain available at https://ow.ly/W2S450ZLEwG.

⚠️ What We're Doing Going Forward
Orange County strives to provide reliable digital access to Board meetings in alignment with our Effective, Reflective Government strategic priority. We know it is an important service and that many residents utilize the livestream and recording to stay informed.

While technical glitches are not always preventable, staff are working diligently with our vendors to avoid potential future issues and to determine if any additional recording from the meeting is recoverable. We apologize for the inconvenience and will work to ensure future meeting recordings perform as expected.
