Last week, Orange City Police Department officers responded to an incident in Hawarden to assist the Hawarden Police Department based on initial dispatch information indicating that a firearm may have been involved. During the response, K9 Rome was deployed to assist with the incident.

Officer Gries and K9 Rome were deployed to search an area near a school sporting event where officers believed a firearm may have been discarded by a suspect. During the search, K9 Rome successfully located a handgun concealed in a grassy ditch area, helping officers recover an important piece of evidence.

K9 Rome continues to be a valuable resource for the Orange City Police Department and the surrounding communities we serve. We appreciate the opportunity to assist our neighboring agencies and are proud of the partnerships that help keep our communities safe.
