Hosp❸rs L.Ė.gacy Library

Hosp❸rs L.Ė.gacy Library A collection of books donated by graduating women to the ongoing Hospers community in Fern Smith Hall's Third East wing. Come! Read! Grow!

The library's tradition began in Hospers, then migrated with the large body of its female inhabitants to Fern 3E, where the collection now resides. We have always been a community about sharing stories and growing together, and the library is a great way for dedicated members to leave their story and words of wisdom behind for the next generation. If you are a Hospers Legacy graduate of any stripe

and would like to donate a book to the collection--or if you have written a story, article, or poem you'd like to share--let us know!

Garfield dives deep in this powerful, vulnerable interview, recounting to Busse his spiritual journey leading up to his recent work.

Busse writes:
"The possibility of love, or its impossibility, paralyzes us. But the personification of love, the vulnerable, wounded, beaten love that I saw in the heart of Andrew Garfield, the personification of love that he experienced as a midwife to Mary, the love he guards in his “hidden life,” the love that lives in his longing to be seen deeply and appreciated fully, the falling in love that he continues to struggle with in his own relationships to God and others—that personification of love is what redeems us all in the end. If the impossibility of love leaves us longing, it is in the personification of love that we will find our satisfaction. It is in the personification of love where we will discover our enoughness."

What do you think? Is the im/possibility of love a paralysis? How do you understand the corporeal force of unconditional love?

“There were so many things in the Exercises that changed me and transformed me, that showed me who I was...and where I believe God wants me to be.”

A while ago, our page shared Prince Ea's video "You Are Not Depressed" video (original in comments); at the time, we focused on the idea of hardship's separation from personhood. But Boyinaband makes a couple points against the video (and Prince Ea's content in general) and its poor research and over-generalization of mental health conditions.

What do you think? Does inspiration ever have a reason to stray from information?

...en inspiration struck: why not put egg whites in the Misto? Voila! Fancy sugar sprinkles and some foil to prevent browning, and it came out perfectly, even holding up over night without collapsing, as apple pies...

It's always intriguing to take a look back at one's own writing, and of course facebook's "On This Day" feed wants you to relive all those missives. Here's a piece looking both back and forward from our own Caitlin Porter, class of '16.

What inspires you about your own personal past, whether in word or memory?

Tonight found me looking back at old blogs and blog posts I've written over the last several years which was sort of a journey for me. I wa...

Anybody need a late night snack?

When the culinary intelligentsia and critics catalog the myriad culinary wonders produced by the American dessert-masters known as the Pennsylvania Dutch, the country fair-nosh known as “kettle corn” is consistently ignored. And that’s messed up because the idea of popping corn in a sugar syrup, whi...

For elevenses, this should happen directly after the Virginia Reel, except with mushrooms and apples and pumpkins.

This tempting discussion continues with some historical background on the sweet.

Austerity during WWII was hardly the time for pounds of exotic candy. Yet The Lion, the Witch, and the Wardrobe prominently features Turkish delight.

It's hard to remember, sometimes, that our worst moments--the parts of us which seem to hang heaviest on our shoulders--are not, after all, what define us. Even when our skies seem permanently affected by the weather, we are not the weather; we are the sky. As you move into another year of intentional community, remember that your friends have chosen you just as God chose you: not in spite of who you are, but BECAUSE of who you are.
