Oracle State Park

Oracle State Park Oracle State Park Oracle State Park is a 4,000 acre wildlife refuge in the northern foothills of the Catalina Mountains.

Once part of the Kannally family cattle ranch, the unique Mediterranean style ranch house in the park is now listed on the National Register of Historic Places. Ranging from 3,700 to 4,600 feet in elevation, the surrounding landscape transitions from oak woodland to desert grassland, with sweeping views of the Catalinas and granite boulder outcrops to the south; and San Pedro River Valley and Gali

uro Mountains to the north-east. The diverse vegetation, slope and elevation within the park provide habitat for a variety of animals. Oracle State Park offers day-use picnic sites and over 15 miles of trail for use by hikers, bicyclists and equestrians. A four mile section of the Arizona Trail passes through the park, connecting Mexico to Utah. The purpose of Oracle State Park is to protect the designated wildlife refuge and act as an environmental learning center. Educational trail programs emphasize participatory outdoor learning experiences for all ages. Students learn about habitat and interrelationships between plants, animals and people. Guided walks, workshops, presentations and special events are planned throughout the year to expand awareness and deepen appreciation of natural and cultural resources. An important focus of educational programming at the park is to understand people as part of nature and to clarify options for environmentally appropriate lifestyles. SOCIAL MEDIA POLICY

Arizona State Parks strongly believes that social media is a tool for consumers and communities to receive updates. We encourage interaction and discussion on any of our posts. We believe firmly that social media must be a safe space for all participants to engage in full and fair dialogue. All posters are encouraged to agree or disagree on any positions on any of our social media outlets. We remind individuals who post, that children, youth and families have access to all of these posts and we want to maximize participation that is free from intimidation or bullying. Name-calling, intimidation or bullying of other social media participants will never be tolerated. Abusive, excessively disruptive and harassing posts will also be considered prohibitive of the fair and safe space we intend to maintain. Posts with unrelated information or political agendas will be removed. We will monitor communications and take appropriate action in order to ensure that these policies are consistently adhered to.

Check out this big ole rattlesnake we found crossing our driveway! In the second image of this sequence, you'll see one of the snake's loreal pits, which it uses similarly to how we would use an infrared camera to detect heat. Pretty neat! It was a lovely encounter with this relaxed snake, which just wanted to mind its own business and did not display aggression. Please note that Ranger Michael took these photos with a super-telephoto zoom lens, then cropped the photos further, allowing for these up-close views. Always make sure to give critters plenty of space. 🙂
