New update from Ben:

All, the town is issuing a boil order for Old Ophir. Any water to be used for human consumption (drinking, cooking, brushing teeth, etc.) should be boiled. Because we are at altitude, boil for a minimum of 3 minutes per CDC instructions.
Water tanks are still filling and pressure is building in the system. Please contiunue to use water as conservatively as possible.

Town Clerk

Good Morning All,

The Old Ophir water distribution system is currently still off. The issues in the water plant have been repaired but there appears to be a leak somewhere in Old Ophir. Water is currently filling the tank and we will start to pressurize the system soon. You can use water now very conservatively. Make sure all faucets are closed and check periodically. If it is blowing air when open, bleed the air until water comes out and then close again. We will keep you updated as the solution progresses.

Town Clerk

Please find a way to spread the word about the Founders Celebration our Town staff has been working hard to organize. It should be a fun filled day. Tell anyone you see who has ever lived up here in Ophir. All are welcome, but old residents with good stories will be greatly honored.

This Friday is the deadline for position statements for or against the upcoming ballot questions. The votes on those questions will have profound outcomes on the Town of Ophir's ability to finance itself.

I encourage Town Staff to get out ahead of this and start working to educate the electorate on the issues. If history is any example, we know that merely including information in the GA minutes is not too effective.

If any residents have positions that they would like to share, email them to the Town Clerk BEFORE this Friday!

Very cool and informative video about hydropower, starring Ophir's own Kurt Johnson! It's kind of long, so you might need to watch it from Telluride, but it's worth the effort!

Energy will be a key issue for the new Congress, and hydropower is one of the few areas of agreement between Democrats and Republicans. Legislative changes have made it easier to develop small-scale hydroelectric projects and both parties find it advantageous. Special correspondent Dan Boyce of Insi…
