Mimosa trees are blooming across Alabama right now!

These eye-catching pink flowers may be beautiful, but mimosa is a non-native invasive tree found throughout Alabama along roadsides, streams, woodlots and other disturbed areas.

Join the 2026 Year of Alabama Invasive Plants Project to raise awareness, improve identification skills and take action against invasive plants.

Alabama is home to a variety of snakes, including six venomous species. The copperhead and cottonmouth are the most encountered of the venomous snake species throughout the state. Understanding their differences, similarities and behaviors can help residents appreciate the vital roles these snakes play in the ecosystem.

While they can seem scary if threatened or accidentally encountered, they generally avoid humans when given the opportunity. Learn to identify these snakes, understand their behavior, and keep a respectful distance. Read more: https://www.aces.edu/go/6485
