ROAD CLOSURE ALERT: Friday, June 19th

Please be advised that several roads in downtown Opelika will be closed today from 3:00 PM to 10:00 PM to accommodate two local events. Drivers are encouraged to plan alternate routes and anticipate potential delays.

Opelika Chamber Food Truck Friday:

8th Street will be closed between 1st Avenue and North Railroad Avenue.

1st Avenue will be closed between 8th Street and 7th Street.

Juneteenth on the Square:

9th Street will be closed between Avenue A and Avenue B.

Avenue B will be closed between 9th Street and 8th Street.

With heavy foot traffic expected in these areas, we urge all drivers to reduce their speed and remain highly vigilant for pedestrians and families.

In observance of Juneteenth, the Opelika Police Department Records, Evidence, and Administrative Offices will be closed on Friday, June 19th, 2026. We will reopen for normal business hours on Monday, June 22nd. For emergencies requiring immediate assistance, please dial 911.

WEATHER ADVISORY & ROAD CONDITIONS

As storms move through the area over the next few hours, we expect significant rainfall and high winds to impact travel conditions.

• Slow down & space out: Wet roads mean less traction. Drop your speed and leave extra room between you and the car ahead.

• Turn around, don't drown: Never try to drive through flooded roadways. You can't always tell how deep the water is or if the road underneath is still there.

• See a downed tree on the road? Pull over safely and call it in to our non-emergency dispatch (334-705-5260).

Stay alert, turn those headlights on, and get to your destination safely!

Missing Juvenile Marvin Domingo Mendez

The Opelika Police Department needs the public's assistance in locating a missing 16-year-old juvenile, Marvin Domingo Mendez. He was last seen on Sunday, June 14, around 8:00 p.m., leaving a residence in the Vickery Trailer Park, located at 2201 Dorsey Street. Mendez is a Hispanic male, approximately 5-foot-5, with black hair.

Officer Phillips and Paulk had an amazing time at O Town reading Monkey Tales: An Adventure in O Town and even ad-libbed some of our own stories into the book. The kids didn't let a little rain stop the fun! They loved playing in the rain after the story, and K9 Hugo even stopped by for a special visit. Thanks for having us, O Town! We will be back to read again in July!
