Here’s What We’re Reading 📚 Today’s recommendation comes from Davis! If you’re looking for the perfect book to get ready for our Summer Reading Kickoff, he recommends “How Do Dinosaurs Learn to Read?” by Jane Yolen and Mark Teague.

“In preparation for our Summer Reading Kickoff this Friday, I am reading How Do Dinosaurs Learn to Read? By Jane Yolen and Mark Teague. This story shows different dinosaurs learning how to read and behave with books. At first, the dinosaurs make mistakes, like grabbing books, making noise, or not paying attention. Then the book explains the right way to read: sitting quietly, turning pages carefully, practicing words, and enjoying stories with others. This book uses humor, rhyming text, and colorful dinosaur illustrations to teach manners and encourage a love of reading.”

Here’s What We’re Reading 📚 Today’s recommendation comes from Anna! If you’re a middle grade reader looking for a fantasy series to start, she recommends “Alcatraz vs. The Evil Librarians” by Brandon Sanderson.

“I love this snarky, fast-paced adventure about Alcatraz, a kid bouncing around in foster care, with a real knack for breaking everything he touches. He receives his inheritance on his 13th birthday - a bag of sand – and finds himself swept into his family’s fight against Evil Librarians, bent on ruling the world. The first book in a middle-grade fantasy series by Brandon Sanderson, it’s full of lovable characters, humor, and magic.”

Here’s What We’re Reading 📚 Today’s recommendation comes from Murray! If you need a book about sports or featuring a U.S. athlete for our May Reading Challenge, he recommends “The Mosquito Bowl” by Buzz Bissinger.

“I've always been interested in the role sports play in culture, and Buzz Bissinger's The Mosquito Bowl encapsulates that value with rare and devastating clarity. On Christmas Eve of 1944, the 4th and 29th Marine regiments faced each other on a field of dirt in the Pacific, with teams made up of college football stars who had traded their campuses for combat. Within months, fifteen of those sixty-five players would be killed at Okinawa. Bissinger, who also wrote Friday Night Lights, writes with immersive precision. The book is very "history-heavy" but handles it well.”
