Rotary Club of Auburn Alabama

The Auburn, Alabama Rotary Club meets most Wednesdays at noon CT in the fellowship hall at Auburn United Methodist Church, corner of Magnolia and Gay Streets.

Today Auburn Assistant Police Chief James Pescia spoke to Rotary about the ways the Auburn Police department is using technology, drones in particular, to ensure public safety.

Great meeting this week!

The Auburn University College of Engineering presented a presentation about the work Engineers without Borders was doing in Guatemala. Led by Dr Christian Brodbeck, EWB has 3 teams that are doing work in Paramos Grande, Guatemala, Pararia, Bolivia, and Auburn, Al. The presentation was led by students Regan Spivey and Ella Brandon about their recent work in Guatemala where they completed construction of an all-new drinking water system.

Also Joe Molnar was presented the Paul Harris Fellowship Award +3. Congratulations Joe!

Dolly Parton‘s tremendous work on literacy programs makes me think of our two Club projects, “Babies Love Books” (every newborn at our local hospital receives a book which parents are encouraged to read to them) and “Dictionaries for Third Graders” (every third grader at every school in our city receives a dictionary). I feel like Dolly would be proud of our efforts and she will serve as an inspiration as we work hard on these projects this year!

Great meeting this week! District Governor Steve Weaver spoke of: Growing membership, retaining current members, and aggressively marketing our club by telling our story.
Visitors this week were:
Tiffany Irvin executive Director of coins for Alzheimer’s Research Trust, Michelle Key Opelika Observer, Bryan Moore Sunrise Club, and Mike Celmar Executive Chef.

Steve also mentioned making changes In the club’s approach to processes, meetings, meeting times, and costs. Don’t Be Afraid To Look for alternatives that are different to attract new (especially younger) members i.e. evening meetings by starting a new Group.

Since we met this week, next meeting will be August 19.

On Aug 5, 2026, District Governor Steve Weaver will speak to our club. We look forward to his talk to the club as he is quite motivational.

To accommodate DG Weaver’s busy schedule we will meet on August 5 at the Non Profit Center on Opelika Road (old Elks Lodge) and not at AUMC.

We want to have a great turnout so make every effort to attend and bring a friend!

Steve Weaver is serving as District Governor of Rotary District 6880 for 2026-2027, leading the "Power of Us" tour to all 46 clubs across the district. A former business owner and M&A Advisor with Apex Business Advisors for over 20 years, Steve has spent his career helping business owners navigate change, build lasting value, and position their companies for the future — the same eye for growth and sustainability he brings to Rotary. Steve joined Rotary in 2014 as a charter member of Waldo Brookside Rotary in Kansas City, where he helped charter a brand-new club to over 50 members. Steve has held every leadership position at the club level and realized that membership was his passion, going on to serve at the district level in membership growth, retention, and new club development. After selling his family business, Steve and his wife Andrea moved to Fairhope, Alabama, where he joined Fairhope Sunset Rotary and later served as club president. He and Andrea have been married for 22 years and have 4 children. Steve attended the University of Alabama, and this year he's applying that same advisor's mindset to strengthening clubs, growing membership, and forming new clubs that fit today's Rotarians — because when we come together, we create lasting impact.

This week at Rotary, Jeff Brinker was presented with a Paul Harris Fellow Award. He is the son of Dick Brinker, who is also a Paul Harris Fellow.

Visitors this week were Jeff Brinker, Paul Davis’s wife Nancy , and Tamara Hallo from the Miami Rotary, friend of Billy Hutto.

This week at the Rotary meeting we welcomed visitors Stewart Scott, Ethan Roberts, and Heath Landrum. Thanks to Jody Haley and Jim McLaughlin for inviting them. All we have to do is ask!

Dick Brinker introduced our speaker, Bill Sauser, who is Professor Emeritus of Management at Auburn University, a Rotary member for over 40 years and a Paul Harris fellow. Bill gave an overview of the life of Patrick Henry and recited his “Give me liberty or give me death” speech in fiery fashion all dressed up in 1770s garb. Attendees were both educated and entertained.

This week we began the new Rotary year, with Danny Spiegner taking over the reins of the ARC. One of the greatest honors a Rotarian can receive is the Paul Harris Fellow designation. This week, our club recognized Karen Hopkins for achieving this status. She received this recognition from Dick Brinker, our club's Rotary Foundation chair.
