Elect Danny Lapin for County Board of Representatives

Elect Danny Lapin for County Board of Representatives County Representative for Otsego County's 13th District (Oneonta Wards 5 & 6) Hey guys! I'd like to tell you all a little bit about myself. We need your support.

My name is Danny Lapin and I am running for the Otsego County Board of Representatives in the 13th District. If elected, I will represent the 5th and 6th wards of the beautiful City of Oneonta, New York. I was born in Mountain View, California. I spent my early years involved in sports--playing baseball in high school and teaching the game to kids. Coaching baseball served to formulate my love for

helping others regardless of background, belief, creed, or identity. I earned my college degree from the University of California, Riverside majoring in Environmental Sciences and proceeded to earn my Masters Degree in Environmental Policy at the Bard College Center for Environmental Policy. At Bard College, I was an assistant on the Women's Basketball Team, was a peer tutor, was involved in Tango, and volunteered in causes around campus. I met my fiancee in 2014 and moved to Otsego County to work for the Otsego County Conservation Association as an Environmental Planner. My career focused on helping communities grow through sustainable job creation, environmental protection, and on building capacity to tackle land-use and environmental issues. I learned that protecting our community is a nonpartisan endeavor. Everyone wants to see their community prosper and succeed. I am running for the Otsego County Board of Representatives because I want to bring my commitment to community service, capacity building, and sustainable job creation to serve not only the City of Oneonta but all of Otsego County as well. As a candidate, I pledge to only receive small donations from people like you. It is through this type of connection that we will be able to get our message out to the greatest number of people! Our first fundraising goal is $875! There are two ways to donate:
By check--Friends of Danny Lapin/3 College Terrace, Oneonta, NY 13820
By donating through Crowdpac: https://www.crowdpac.com/campaigns/336862/otsego-county-needs-a-unifying-environmentalist-on-the-otsego-county-board-of-representatives

Every little bit helps!

Congratulations to Don Scanlon on his victory in the District 13 election. The current tally is unofficial and needs to be certified. The margin of victory was by two votes. It's a sign that EVERY vote matters. I look forward to assisting Mr. Scanlon in making the transition in District 13 as smooth as possible. I would like to congratulate Mark Pawkett on a hard-fought race. This was a clean race run with integrity and respect for the democratic process.

To the best of my knowledge, everything cited by the Otsego County Sheriff's Office is true.

As an Otsego County Board Rep, here's where our budget tells me we are, which I'm happy to talk about with anyone who contacts me: nearly every single department has the same issues in terms of salaries and staffing. We have two choices, given our budget. Tell me what essential service you would like to cut money from to give more money to the Sheriff's office (or any other office) or tell me that you support an additional $20 on your annual county tax bill. Keep in mind that a service you think is nonessential may be mandated by state or federal law and not something that can be eliminated. Also keep in mind that a service you deem inessential might be essential to another Otsego County resident.

Last night, it was the first time in two election cycles that my name wasn't on the ballot. As I look back on the past four years, I want to express my sincere gratitude to the residents of Oneonta Wards 5 & 6.

Four years ago, you all took a chance on me-a political newcomer- to serve on the Otsego County Board of Representatives. I ran on a platform of cost savings through low taxes, government efficiency, environmental protection, addressing housing issues, and promoting economic development.

Otsego County continues to have the lowest tax rate in the state. The County Board successfully hired a great new Administrator: Joshua Beams. We are developing a forward-thinking energy roadmap which will help us fight climate change. The City of Oneonta added over 100 new units of affordable housing. Our local IDA has been successful in creating new jobs throughout the County.

However, what matters most to me, is that folks in Wards 5 & 6 continue to be engaged. As I have always said, Wards 5 &6 continue to have some of the strongest bonds of community that I have seen anywhere I've lived.

The current race for District 13 is too close to call. I've been clear in my support for Mark E Pawkett. I believe his dedication to the community, willingness to engage on all issues no matter how small or inconsequential, and his generosity in raising money for local organizations will make him an excellent county rep. No matter what happens with the absentee count, I will continue to advocate for Wards 5 & 6 and will support the winner of the absentee count.

In sum, it has been my honor and privilege to serve the past four years on the County Board. Please continue to reach out if there is anything I can do to help you or if you need an advocate at the local level.

‼️Dan vs Danny Fundraiser Round 2‼

October is Substance Abuse Awareness Month. To honor this designation, my good friend Dan Buttermann and I are raising money for two amazing oragnizations: Friends of Recovery of Delaware and Otsego Counties (FOR-DO) and BRIDGES the Madison County Council on Alcoholism and Substance Abuse.

I am looking to raise $2,000 for FOR-DO. This organization does so much for our community and our young people ranging from operating Club Odyssey to providing support for folks in recovery. Please join me in supporting FOR-DO's mission.

To add a bit of intrigue to this fundraiser, the winner of our fundraising challenge will get to pour blue water on the loser. Tune in on October 31 where we will reveal the winner of the fundraiser.

Today, I had the pleasure of attending a rally to stand in solidarity with members of our Asian American Pacific Islander community. It was so inspiring to see so many people brave the rain to attend this event. The students who organized this rally deserve to be commended for their strength and integrity to speak out against systemic racism. The speakers challenged us to further educate ourselves about the history of discrimination against Asian Americans.

I am truly saddened to hear of the passing of 6th ward leader Al Colone. When I first ran for office in 2017, Al graciously invited me into his home on multiple occasions for a glass of wine to discuss plans for economic development in our region. His encouragement and support was a major inspiration for my dedication to public service. His commitment to his neighborhood and the greater Oneonta region was truly commendable.
