Any content removed based on these guidelines will be retained by the City of Oneonta’s records retention officer for a reasonable period of time as required by the applicable records retention statute, including the time, date and identity of the poster, when available.

📣📣 THIS FRIDAY, September 4, at 10:30am, join GOHS and SUNY Oneonta in celebrating Founder’s Day with the unveiling of our final NYS Historical Marker of the 2026 season for Old Main!

🪧 The Old Main historic marker commemorates the former site of Old Main, established in 1889 and razed in 1977. The building was the original site of SUNY Oneonta. **The marker will be located at the foot of Maple Street at the intersection of State Street (now the Old Main Apartments, 7 State Street) where the original steps to the Old Main building still remain.

🎉 Prior to the unveiling, GOHS, SUNY Oneonta staff, and the Alumni Association will gather across the street at Maple Street Park for light refreshments and remarks from SUNY Oneonta President Dr. Alberto Cardelle, City Mayor Dan Butterman, and more.

🙏🏻 The Old Main historic marker is generously funded by the SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association. 

🆓 This event is free and open to the press and public.
👏🏻 GOHS thanks the City of Oneonta and their Department of Public Works and the SUNY Oneonta Alumni Association for helping to preserve Oneonta’s rich history.

School is almost back in session.

That means school buses, students walking and biking, busy drop-off areas and mornings when everyone is running approximately seven minutes late. Please slow down, stay alert and help keep our students safe.

🟡 Yellow flashing lights mean a school bus is preparing to stop. Slow down and be ready to stop.

🔴 Red flashing lights and an extended stop sign mean children are getting on or off the bus. Stop at least 20 feet away and remain stopped until the bus begins moving again.

In New York State, traffic approaching a stopped school bus from either direction must stop.

A few more back-to-school reminders:
🚸 Watch carefully for children near schools, bus stops, driveways and crosswalks.
📵 Put the phone down and keep your attention on the road.
🚲 Give bicyclists plenty of room and expect more young riders during arrival and dismissal times.
👟 Remind children to stay back from the curb, wait for the bus driver’s signal and look left-right-left before crossing.

A few extra minutes on your drive is a small price to pay for getting every child to school (and home again) safely.
