Dissappointed...Yes! Blount EMS met and in some cases exceeded our ambulance contract expectations over the last 5 years. Additionally, we were able to maintain our operational performance over the past 2 years despite the negative impact that Covid-19 had on local and state EMS services. Our Team Members truly made the difference in our ability to maintain our operational integrity during this difficult time. In the recent RFP/Bid process, Blount EMS delivered a thorough, well-developed EMS plan for the community that could be financially supported based on our 27 years of experience to develop a robust business model to control ambulance charges/costs to our citizens.

The new ambulance service has promised to provide more ambulance resources to the community and to improve emergency response times to the citizens of Blount County. As an integral part of this community, we, too, support the County's decision in selecting the ambulance service provider they believe will best provide improved EMS services to the community!

Thanks to the Skill Nursing Facilities, Assisted Living Centers, and hospital for not only trusting us to care for your patients but also for including us in your special activities. We enjoy our interaction with the patients and families. We are going to especially miss our Christmas visits with the patients, and to see their faces light up when they saw Santa Claus.

We want to express our appreciation to the Blount County Fire & EMS Association and the fire departments in Blount County for their support of Blount EMS. We have enjoyed teaming up with the Association to support the Junior Fire Fighter camp, continuing education, support of the High School football games and other special events. But most importantly, we treasure the teamwork as we serve to provide emergency medical care to the citizens of Blount County. Thanks to all the individuals and organizations for your support over the last 27 years!

We would like to give a huge thanks to Dr. Bryan Balentine for serving as our Medical Director for the past 5 years. During his tenure we have achieved CAAS (Commission for Accreditation of Ambulance Services) Accreditation, awarded the “Culture of Excellence” from ADPH EMS 4 years in a row for zero deficits, and started administering controlled substances for pain management. He served as Medical Director for 3 EMT-Basic and 3 Advanced EMT Courses as well as countless continuing education classes for Blount County. Dr. Balentine was instrumental in helping established a Critical Care Transport Ventilator program for intubated/BiPAP patients, increasing care to the critically ill. We would like to express our appreciation for his support to our EMS Providers and dedication to healthcare to the citizens of Blount County.

As many of our friends, colleagues and medical partners are aware, Blount County recently underwent a required RFP/bid process to enter into a new Ambulance Service contract for the citizens of Blount County. Blount EMS, unfortunately, was not successful in our attempt to remain as Blount County's ambulance service as the Blount County 911 Board elected to enter into a contract with another provider to begin on Friday, September 30, 2022. Though we are disappointed in the Board's decision, we certainly wish nothing but the best for Blount County, especially those who need medical care and transportation services.

Blount EMS (BEMS) has proudly served Blount County since beginning operations on April 15, 1995. Initially owned and operated by Joey Phillips, the mission of the company was predicated on providing high quality EMS services to the community. In February 2006, Mr. Phillips sold BEMS to Jon (Tony) Smelley and BEMS became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NorthStar EMS, Inc. Since that time, BEMS remained focused on the company's original mission and recently became accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) which highlighted the commitment of our Team to be recognized as one of the best EMS agencies in the country.

We have so many people, EMS partners, medical facilities and most importantly, our Team Members (past & present) to THANK for an incredible journey. Over the next few weeks, we will make every attempt to shine the spotlight on the incredible journey we had to become Blount County's premier EMS service provider. It is important to reminisce and take time to recognize all those who made our time in Blount County successful.
