As many of our friends, colleagues and medical partners are aware, Blount County recently underwent a required RFP/bid process to enter into a new Ambulance Service contract for the citizens of Blount County. Blount EMS, unfortunately, was not successful in our attempt to remain as Blount County's ambulance service as the Blount County 911 Board elected to enter into a contract with another provider to begin on Friday, September 30, 2022. Though we are disappointed in the Board's decision, we certainly wish nothing but the best for Blount County, especially those who need medical care and transportation services.
Blount EMS (BEMS) has proudly served Blount County since beginning operations on April 15, 1995. Initially owned and operated by Joey Phillips, the mission of the company was predicated on providing high quality EMS services to the community. In February 2006, Mr. Phillips sold BEMS to Jon (Tony) Smelley and BEMS became a wholly-owned subsidiary of NorthStar EMS, Inc. Since that time, BEMS remained focused on the company's original mission and recently became accredited by the Commission on the Accreditation of Ambulance Services (CAAS) which highlighted the commitment of our Team to be recognized as one of the best EMS agencies in the country.
We have so many people, EMS partners, medical facilities and most importantly, our Team Members (past & present) to THANK for an incredible journey. Over the next few weeks, we will make every attempt to shine the spotlight on the incredible journey we had to become Blount County's premier EMS service provider. It is important to reminisce and take time to recognize all those who made our time in Blount County successful.
