1976 NASA photograph of the space shuttle orbiter "Enterprise" mated to the modified Boeing 747 carrier aircraft flying over the Mojave Desert during approach and landing tests. From Hartwick's collection of manuscripts by Henry S.F. Cooper, a prolific science and nature writer who covered the US and Soviet space programs. Cooper's 1973 book, "13: The Flight that Failed" was published 2 years after the Apollo 13 mission. Cooper served as a consultant for the 1995 film starring Tom Hanks.

Mary Elizabeth Carnegie, DPA, RN, FAAN, ground-breaking nurse, educator, and author, spoke at Hartwick in May of 1964. Dr. Carnegie was named a Living Legend of the Academy of Nursing, the highest honor the profession offers, in 1994.
