Late this afternoon we were dispatched to a fire in the marsh off of Bayview. A large fire was confirmed and moving North quickly. Mutual aid was requested, including air resources from the Forest Service. With the help from all we stabilized the incident and the Forest Service took over the incident allowing us to clear. We cannot thank our partners enough! Thank you to Manistee Central Dispatch, Bear Lake Township Fire, Arcadia Township Fire, Mobile Medical Response, Manistee County Sheriff’s Office, Michigan State Police, US Forest Service and Consumers Energy.

*As always, we love our residents and interacting with all of you. But please, do not enter a fire scene unless requested by authorized personnel. It is dangerous and we have other priorities. You do not have the right to be in a fire scene.*

Tonight your firefighters took advantage of the nice weather and did pump training with the new engine.

This week is National Public Safety Telecommunicators week! Special thank you to Manistee County 911. They are the first ones you talk to in an emergency but the ones who are rarely if ever seen. The work they do is unreal and we are thankful for them everyday. They are truly the glue that holds us all together. Thank you dispatchers!

Friendly reminder, in any instance where you or someone you know is experiencing an emergency please do not call the fire department phone number. Please dial 9-1-1.

We love to hear from all of you but we are not a staffed station, we all come from home. There is also no guarantee someone is available to answer your phone call.

We made it through the storm and to a great weekend!
Throughout the storm we responded to just under 20 different weather related incidents. Huge thank you to our crews for continuing to push through while balancing taking care of our own homes and families. Huge shout out to Manistee County Central Dispatch. They held everything together like the glue they are. You’re all amazing!! Also, thank you to the power companies along with the Manistee County Road Commission for everything they did. We crossed paths several times and are thankful for all they do.

It’s no secret we are in a bad winter storm, the roads are horrendous and trees continue to fall taking down power lines. Our area has seen more down trees and lines today than last night. Please use extreme caution and only go out if you absolutely must. Do not approach any down power lines, treat them all as energized. Try to think Spring and we will get through this!

Last night we were hard at work putting the new Engine 7 into service. Everything had to be transferred over to the new engine and the old was placed out of service. We are very fortunate and cannot thank our community enough for allowing us to have such great equipment to work with!!

Please be safe and give yourself plenty of extra time if you have to go out tomorrow.
