Join park staff deep in the backcountry of Big South Fork National River & Recreation Area at Charit Creek Lodge for a night of stargazing and moon viewing. Telescopes will be available for viewing stars, galaxies, and the moon’s craters and surface details.
The program will take place from 8:30-10:30 PM (ET) on Saturday, May 23.
Visitors are responsible for traveling to and from Charit Creek Lodge on their own. The lodge is only accessible by hiking, biking, or horseback — no vehicle access is available beyond the gate. While several trails lead to the lodge, we recommend the easiest and most direct route from the parking area at the end of Fork Ridge Road. From the parking lot, walk around the gate and follow the gravel Charit Creek Lodge Road directly to the lodge. The route is approximately 1 mile each way and is considered moderate difficulty, with a gradual downhill walk to the lodge and an uphill return hike back to the parking area.
Bring a flashlight or headlamp, wear sturdy footwear, and use caution while hiking in the dark.
