Just a friendly remind….ANYTIME you are adding or changing structure to your property (residential or commercial) you need to get a building permit. This includes but not limited to a sidewalk, patio, deck, shed/garage, fences, or even a sign. Please feel free to contact City Hall at 712/433-1181 with any questions! We can provide you with the building permit application, code section for your particular project or let you know where to find that information online.

Tree dump is opened back up. Please keep all loads on the north side of the tree line.

REMINDER THE TREE DUMP IS NOT FOR GRASS. If grass continues to be dumped we will be closing again.

With the current conditions and rekindling itself we will be closing the Onawa tree dump. We hope to have it back open during regular business hours on Monday.

Reminder to residents that qualified for year 25/26 energy assistance:

Winter moratorium ends April 1st. All utilities will be subject to disconnect after that date with no further notice if delinquent balance is not paid or payment agreement made.

ONAWA AQUATIC CENTER POSITIONS AVAILABLE

The City of Onawa is now accepting applications for the following positions at the Onawa Aquatic Center: Manager, Assistant Manager, WSI Swim Instructors, Lifeguards and Junior Lifeguards.

Applications are also being accepted for Basket Room helpers.

Applicants age 14 and over are eligible to apply for Aquatic Center positions.

Job descriptions & applications are available at onawa.com/employment and the Onawa City Office, 914 Diamond Street, Onawa, Iowa 51040. The deadline to apply for aquatic center positions is April 15, 2026. Contact Melissa Beermann at (712) 420-0946 for questions.

The City of Onawa is now accepting applications for part-time seasonal positions. Beginning start date is targeted for April 2026. Application forms are available at the Onawa City Office, 914 Diamond Street, Onawa, IA 51040. Applications will be taken until positions filled. EOE

NOTICE

Due to clean-up at the Onawa Cemetery beginning April 13, 2026, ALL DECORATIONS should be picked up before this date or they will be removed by Cemetery personnel with the following exceptions: Decorations which are in containers of the type described in the Stone and Monument Work section of the cemetery rules booklet, or mounted on the headstone, or on concrete pads of sufficient size to allow room for mowing and trimming along the edge of the pad. All containers and decorations must fit within each property owner’s space. These decorations, in permanent containers and properly mounted will be left in place unless their condition becomes unsightly due to age or deterioration.

All wrought iron plant hangers need to be removed during this time.

You may replace or place artificial flowers or decorations after August 17, 2026
