Thank you La Crosse Area Waters for sharing this information. Brine is an important part of keeping our roads safe.

Brine is essential for keeping everyone safe on the roads during winter weather events. By pre-treating the roads up to 2 days - 6 hours before a storm, it prevents hard packing of snow and ice before it has the chance to build up!

To stay safe on the roads this winter while the brine trucks are out and about, remember these key tips:

❄ Stay back from the brine truck! Make sure you are staying 500ft away from these trucks while they are hard at work spraying the roads. This will keep you and your car safe from the salt.

❄ Stay clean! Get a car wash at least once a week to remove snow and salt build-up on your car. Cars are more prone to rusting the longer salt sits on corrosive materials. The snow sticking to your car contains salt, so wash it off ASAP!

❄ Brush it off! Make sure you are completely clearing all windows and mirrors of snow and ice before getting on the road. Warm up your car 15-20 minutes before you leave the house to ensure complete melt-age.
