UPDATE-Onalaska Police Respond to Domestic Incident

At approximately 8:33 a.m. on September 11, 2026, the Onalaska Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of West Young Drive for a report of a person who had been shot.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel learned the shooting occurred during a domestic incident involving two family members. The victim was transported to a hospital in La Crosse and is currently receiving treatment.

The second individual remained at the scene and was taken into custody without incident. Following the investigation, Gerard R Cody, age 66, has been arrested and is being held in the La Crosse County Jail on a charge of Attempted First Degree Intentional Homicide.

There is no ongoing threat to the public. Law enforcement personnel will remain in the area as the investigation continues.

This remains an active investigation. Additional information will be released as it becomes available.

**Onalaska Police Respond to Domestic Situation**

At approximately 833 AM this morning, 09-11-26, the Onalaska Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to a residence in the 1500 block of W Young Drive to assist a subject who had been shot.

Upon arrival, emergency personnel learned the shooting took place during a domestic incident between two family members. The shooting victim has been transported to a hospital in La Crosse.

All individuals involved remained at the scene and are accounted for. There is no threat to the public. It is anticipated investigators will remain on scene for several hours.

No further information is available at this time.

**Onalaska Police Respond to First Free Church**

At 5:33 PM this evening, 09-05-2026, the Onalaska Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to the parking lot of First Free Church to assist a person who was suffering from a mental health crisis. Contact was made with the person in the parking lot, and they were cooperative with Law Enforcement.

Out of an abundance of caution, people attending the evening church service were asked to remain inside the building and the driveway to the church was blocked to prevent additional guests from entering. The individual involved, along with their vehicle, was searched by officers from the Onalaska Police Department.

It was determined there was no threat to the public and the person involved was allowed to leave scene with a family member.
