🚒 Regional Collaboration in Action! 🚒

Today, firefighters from the Onalaska, Holmen, and La Crosse Fire Departments came together for joint training focused on propane safety and emergency response.

The training was provided by the La Crosse Fire Department HazMat Team in cooperation with Suburban Propane, giving firefighters an opportunity to strengthen their knowledge and skills when responding to incidents involving propane and other hazardous materials.

Regional training like this is an important part of keeping our communities safe. By working together, sharing resources, and training side-by-side, our departments build stronger relationships and improve our ability to operate effectively during emergencies that cross jurisdictional boundaries.

A big thank you to the La Crosse HazMat Team and Suburban Propane for providing this valuable training, and to all of the firefighters who participated.

🚒 The Onalaska Fire Department is proud to announce the appointment of Jeremy Southworth as Fire Chief!

After more than 26 years of dedicated service to the Onalaska Fire Department, Jeremy will lead the department into its next chapter.
He began his career with Onalaska as a firefighter and has steadily advanced through the ranks, serving as a Lieutenant, Assistant Chief, and most recently as Interim Fire Chief. Throughout his career, he has demonstrated a strong commitment to the department, its members, and the community we serve.

We are excited to have Jeremy continue leading the Onalaska Fire Department and look forward to the future under his leadership. Last night Hank was able to officially pin on his badge.

🎒🚌 SCHOOL IS BACK IN SESSION! 🚸

With kids heading back to school, it’s time for all of us to slow down and stay extra alert on the roads.

🚸 Watch carefully for children crossing the street, walking or biking to school.
🚌 Be aware of students getting on and off school buses.
🐢 Slow down and follow the posted speed limits in school zones.
🛑 Stop for school buses when their red warning lights are flashing and the stop arm is extended.
👀 Give yourself extra time to watch for children who may be distracted or unexpectedly enter the roadway.
A few extra seconds of patience can make a huge difference in keeping our kids safe.

Let's work together to make this a safe and successful school year for everyone! ❤️🚒

🚒👮 Joint Training Today at St. Patrick’s School

Today, the Onalaska Police Department and Onalaska Fire Department are teaming up with the Holmen Area Fire Department and Holmen Police Department for a joint training exercise at St. Patrick’s School in Onalaska.

Joint training like this gives our public safety teams the opportunity to work together, strengthen communication, practice coordinated response, and prepare for incidents that may require multiple agencies.

Residents and those in the area may notice increased emergency vehicle activity around St. Patrick’s today. This is a planned training exercise—not an emergency.

We appreciate the partnership between our neighboring agencies and their continued commitment to keeping our communities safe. 🤝🚒👮

🚒 We are excited to welcome Cullen as our newest Firefighter/EMT!🚒

Cullen comes to us with EMS experience, having worked as an EMT with Emplify by Gundersen. This experience in emergency medical services will be a strong foundation as he begins his fire service career with our department.

Over the past several weeks, Cullen has demonstrated tremendous growth through his hard work and dedication during Recruit Academy Training, as well as through hands-on learning with his shift. His positive attitude, commitment to learning, and willingness to take on new challenges have already made a great impression on our team. Cullen is most looking forward to becoming confident as a firefighter/EMT in the field in order to do his duty and serve the community to the best of his ability.

We appreciate Cullen's dedication to serving others and his willingness to continue learning and growing in service to our community.

July was another busy month for the Onalaska Fire Department, and we're proud to serve our community every day.

Every call, every hour of training, and every response reflects our commitment to providing professional and reliable service to the City of Onalaska.

Training remains a top priority for us at the department. Whether responding to fires, medical emergencies, vehicle crashes, or other emergencies, our team will be ready when you need us most.

Thank you to our residents for your continued support and trust. We also extend our appreciation to our neighboring agencies and community partners who help make our mission possible.

Come on down to the Onalaska American Legion between now and 1:00 PM and celebrate Community Days with the Onalaska Fire Department! 🚒💦

Stop by to meet our firefighters, check out our equipment, and let the kids (and kids at heart!) have some fun spraying water with a real fire hose. It’s a great opportunity to learn more about your fire department, ask questions, and enjoy a fun community event.

Please join us in welcoming Firefighter/EMT Evan to our team full-time! 🚒

Evan has been serving as a part-time firefighter with our department since 2024 and recently made the transition to a full-time role. Over the past two weeks, he has been hard at work refreshing and sharpening his skills as he continues to grow as a firefighter and EMS provider.

In addition to his firefighting experience, Evan brings valuable emergency medical experience as an EMT with the Brice Prairie First Responders, as well as wildland firefighting experience with the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources (WI DNR). His diverse background and dedication to public service make him a tremendous addition to our team.

Thank you, Evan, for your commitment to serving our community and for choosing to continue your career with us full-time. We are excited to have you on board and look forward to your continued success.

***Onalaska Police Investigate Suspicious Fires***

On Tuesday evening, July 28th, between the hours of 8:00 PM and shortly after Midnight, the Onalaska Police and Fire Departments were dispatched to several fires. Residents living in or near the areas north of Main Street and south of Troy Street are asked to check cameras to see if anything or anyone suspicious was recorded.

Several garbage cans, a dumpster and a vehicle all sustained damage as a result of the fires. Residents are asked to immediately report fires or suspicious activity to the La Crosse County Emergency Communications Center. In progress events should be reported by calling 911. If you are calling to report a fire or suspicious activity from Tuesday evening/ Wednesday morning, please call (608) 782-7575.
