As we continue the Heartland Honors 9/11 11 Days of Service, we're highlighting Salvation Army Emergency Disaster Services and its long history of serving communities in times of crisis, including in the aftermath of 9/11, when EDS volunteers provided meals, care, and support to first responders and those affected.

Today, EDS continues that same mission, responding to disasters and supporting local emergency and community events throughout the year.

You don't need prior disaster experience to get involved. Whether you're brand new to EDS or have experience in disaster response, there's a place for you on the team.

Today marks the beginning of Heartland Honors 9/11 11 Days of Service, leading up to the 25th anniversary of 9/11. Over the next 11 days, we're invited to remember those we lost, honor those who served, and come together to serve our community.

25 years ago, The Salvation Army was the first humanitarian organization to arrive at Ground Zero, providing meals, supplies, and support to first responders, relief workers, and survivors.

Today, that legacy continues. Through Emergency Disaster Services, community programs, and dedicated volunteers, The Salvation Army continues to be there when communities need us β€” responding to disasters, supporting first responders, serving meals, and helping meet needs right here in our communities.

From sorting and packing thousands of backpacks to helping with distributions at the Kroc Center, North Corps, and Westroads mall, our volunteers have been busy making our Back to School program happen. πŸ™Œ

Because of you, thousands of students across the Omaha metro are heading back to school with the supplies they need to start the year ready to learn! πŸ“šβœοΈπŸŽ’

Thanks for bringing the energy, lending a hand, and making a BIG impact for local students. We couldn't have done it without you! ❀️

HELP!

We are in need of some extra hands to assist with a few projects to ensure we're able to smoothly transition back into our normal meal program as quickly as possible.

On Monday 8/17 from 1-3pm we are in need of some folks to help with our post construction clean up. This involves a lot of dusting, sweeping and mopping in our new cooler/freezer/kitchen storage space to get it ready for shelving and food items to be moved into them.

On Tuesday 8/18 from 8:30-11am we are in need of some muscle to help us move some shelving equipment into the newly renovated kitchen spaces and then transition a significant amount of frozen and cooler stored food into them.

Is this something you can help with? Reach out to [email protected] with questions or to lend a hand!
