Domestic violence (DV) is pervasive in our communities – with 1 in 3 women and 1 in 4 men experiencing abuse at the hands of a partner during their lifetime. Children are not immune to or shielded from violence.

Don’t miss our next Statewide Wellbeing Initiative event, The Children are Not Okay: Impact and Prevention of Domestic Violence coming up Wednesday October 14th, 1-2:30 p.m. CST. This session will discuss the prevalence of DV, the intersection of DV and child maltreatment, how these behaviors permeate the day-to-day climate of the home, and will discuss identification of harm, strategies for prevention, skill building, and resiliency, as well as strategies to support caregivers and their children.

Rita Farrell serves as Senior Director at Zero Abuse Project and has spent more than 24 years advancing child advocacy through her work as a forensic interviewer and executive director. She is a founding Executive Director at Chaucie’s Place child advocacy center and is a board member for the Indiana Coalition of Child Advocacy Centers as well the American Professional Society on the Abuse of Children (APSAC).

A true champion! Congratulations Isabel!!

We’re proud to recognize our first of two Child Welfare Champions, Isabel Vasquez, a forensic interviewer with CAPStone in Scottsbluff.

Isabel creates a safe, supportive space for children who may have experienced abuse or witnessed a serious crime helping them share their story in their own words while reducing the need to repeat traumatic experiences.

Her nominator shared that Isabel “consistently goes above and beyond to support the mission of protecting and advocating for children.”

Congratulations, Isabel, and thank you for being a champion for Nebraska’s children. 💙

Today, we’re thrilled to highlight our August Awareness Around Advocacy honoree Cassie Helgoth, a Family Advocate from BraveBe Child Advocacy Center.

Family advocates help children and families navigate the CAC process, access resources, and feel supported during difficult times. Cassie brings joy and compassion to this work, making a meaningful difference for families when they need it most.

Through Awareness Around Advocacy, we celebrate the professionals strengthening advocacy across NECAC’s statewide network. Recognizing their contributions helps build greater understanding of advocacy’s essential role in Nebraska’s response to child abuse.

Thank you, Cassie, for your dedication to Nebraska’s children and families!

A fantastic resource for parents, educators, and everyone else who works with children during this back-to-school season!

It's officially season and many children will attend after-school programs this year! These activities serve a multitude of purposes, including childcare, enrichment, tutoring and more. Parents and caregivers rely on these programs not only to occupy their children but to keep them safe.

With the new school year in session, now is a great time to have a conversation about body safety! ❤

These conversations don't have to be scary—they can be empowering.

Teaching children about body safety helps build confidence, encourages open communication, and gives them the tools to recognize unsafe situations.

Keep the conversation age-appropriate, ongoing, and judgment-free. The more children know, the more confident they'll feel speaking up when something doesn't seem right.

Small conversations today can make a lifelong impact.
