A familiar figure from Omaha’s past is finding a permanent home in Turner Park.

For decades, Rev. Livingston Wills, known throughout Omaha as "The Broom Man”, walked the city selling brooms and spreading kindness along the way. His positive spirit, determination and work ethic made him a beloved and memorable part of the Omaha community.

Now, his legacy will live on through a life-size bronze sculpture created by Omaha artist John Lajba.

Join us Wednesday, September 9th at 2pm in Turner Park as we celebrate the unveiling of “The Broom Man” and honor the life and legacy of Rev. Livingston Wills. 🧹

All City administrative offices will be closed on Monday, September 7, 2026, in observance of the Labor Day holiday.

Here is what you need to know about municipal services:

Emergency Services: Police, fire, and emergency medical services will operate normally.

Trash & Recycling: Collection schedules will run on a one-day delay for the remainder of the week.

Reporting Issues: Citizens can still report non-emergency issues and submit service requests 24/7 at omahahotline.com.

A new month is here, and this September we are shining a spotlight on the dedicated individuals who keep Omaha safe, healthy, and running smoothly every single day: our frontline workers! From grocery clerks and transit operators to nurses, firefighters, and police officers, these neighbors show up for us when we need them most.

This month, let's ask ourselves: How can we be good neighbors to the frontline workers in our community? Here are a few simple ways to show our appreciation:

💬 Say Thank You: A simple, sincere "thank you for everything you do" to a grocery store cashier, healthcare worker, or mail carrier can completely turn their day around.
🤫 Be Mindful of Shift Workers: Many frontline employees work night shifts or long, irregular hours. Keeping noise levels down during the day helps sleeping neighbors get the rest they need.
☕ Small Gestures Go a Long Way: Drop off a gift card to a local coffee shop, leave an extra-kind note for your delivery driver, or bring treats to your neighborhood fire station.
