Friday Night Lights recap:

On Friday, members of team DCSO had the privilege of escorting the Westview High School football team onto the field before their game as well as both Elkhorn North and Millard South. Afterwards, a few members were able to stick around to watch the games as well. We always love being part of community events like this, supporting our youth, schools, and working with our partners at the Nebraska Army Nation Guard and Omaha Fire to help provide these athletes an experience they won't soon forget.

Around 1:15 this morning, Deputies located this extremely friendly dog running around without tags while on patrol in the area of 190th Terrace and Y Street.

He was turned over to the Nebraska Humane Society. If he is your dog, please contact the Humane Society at 402-444-7800.

CAT deputies and Omaha Police were out again on Saturday night combating dangerous driving. ABLE-1 tracked a Chevy Camaro on Dodge Street near Midtown. The vehicle was driving at more than double the speed limit and the driver slid the tires sideways upon accelerating on multiple occasions. Deputies caught up to the vehicle at 11th & Farnam Street and arrested the driver, Saul Galeno. Mr. Galeno was found to be under the influence of alcohol and had a BAC of .204.

Mr. Galeno was booked into jail for reckless driving 2nd offense, aggravated DUI, and not having registration for his vehicle. Driving through the Old Market with a BAC more than twice the legal limit is a recipe for disaster.

At the Douglas County Sheriff’s Office, women serve in every area of our agency, from patrol and investigations to court services, community programs, and leadership. Their dedication, expertise, and commitment to public safety make a difference every day.

Thank you to the women of DCSO and law enforcement agencies everywhere for the work you do, the challenges you take on, and the communities you serve.

We are proud to stand alongside you.

Some of our female Deputies are not pictured due to personnel assignments. Also, not pictured are our amazing female Crime Scene Investigators, Crime Technicians, Security Officers, and others in non-sworn positions who, while not sworn Deputies, perform law enforcement vital functions within our office.

Around 6:30 last night a DCSO license plate reader camera hit on a vehicle that had been reported as stolen on Fort Street. Special Operations Group (SOG) Deputies located the vehicle shortly after and attempted a traffic stop. The vehicle fled and Omaha Police Able 1 was able to track it as SOG, CAT, and Road patrol Deputies set up a perimeter.

After a successful stop stick deployment, all three occupants fled on foot. After a brief pursuit, all three occupants were taken into custody.

The juvenile driver was booked into the Douglas County Youth Center on the following charges:
▪️Theft by receiving, $5,000+
▪️Operating a Motor Vehicle to Avoid Arrest + Willful Reckless
▪️Obstructing an Officer

The other juvenile occupant was booked into the Douglas County Youth Center on charges of:
▪️Unlawful Occupancy
▪️Obstructing an Officer
▪️Possession of Ma*****na with the Intent to Deliver

The adult occupant, Laaunzea JONES, was booked into the Douglas County Department of Corrections on charges of:
▪️Unlawful Occupancy
▪️Obstructing an Officer

Having your vehicle stolen is more than an inconvenience; it can easily disrupt the lives of hardworking individuals, impacting their ability to get to work, school, or conduct their daily lives. The DCSO is committed to working with our partners to quickly locate stolen vehicles, hold offenders accountable, and restore a sense of security to victims.

Cold Case Awareness Month: Stephanie Caldwell

Stephanie CALDWELL was last seen alive in the early morning hours of May 26, 1986. CALDWELL was known to frequent the downtown Omaha area, and may have been in the area of 24th and Farnam Streets prior to her disappearance.

Individuals fishing the Elkhorn River located CALDWELL’s deceased body on June 2, 1986. The location on the river was about a half mile south of Q Street, near S 245th Street. It was apparent CALDWELL had been stabbed seven times with a knife.

Today marks the 25th anniversary of the September 11th terrorist attacks. On this day, we pause to honor the lives lost. We remember the courage of first responders who ran toward danger, the strength of families who endured the unthinkable, and the resilience of a nation that stood together in the face of tragedy.​

On September 11, we saw the very worst of humanity met with the absolute best of our nation. In our darkest hour, the divisions that so often pull us apart vanished in an instant​. We weren’t divided by politics, background, or belief; we were simply Americans standing shoulder to shoulder, lifting each other up. ​

Let us never forget the sacrifice, unity, and spirit that defined that day. May we never forget what unites us as one.

Cold Case Awareness Month: Rebecca L. Williams

On Tuesday June 3, 2003, at 10:49 PM, the Douglas County Sheriff's Office obtained a missing person report on 13 year old Rebecca WILLIAMS. WILLIAMS was reported missing by her mother, from her residence, in the Park Meadows Estates subdivision, a mobile home park located on the Northwest periphery of the Omaha metropolitan area. Her mother last saw WILLIAMS on June 3rd at 6:30 PM.

On Wednesday, June 18, 2003, WILLIAMS’s deceased body was discovered by three male juveniles near a creek bank in a heavily overgrown, wooded area located on the west end of Park Meadows Estates and northeast of the intersection of 114th and Ida Streets. The juveniles are residents of Park Meadows Estates and were exploring the wooded area picking mulberries.

The boys failed to inform adults until the next day because they were scared and were unsure of what they should do. The discovery of WILLIAMS's body was brought to the attention of the Douglas County Sheriff's Office on Thursday, June 19, 2003 at approximately 1 PM after the father of one of the boy’s went to the scene and verified that it was a body and then called 911.

Further analysis would later determine WILLIAMS’s cause of death as asphyxiation.

Unity Seats Brings Community Together for Westview Wolverines vs. Elkhorn North Wolves

Friday night football will provide the setting for connection when the Westview Wolverines face the Elkhorn North Wolves on Sept. 11, 2026, at 15800 Summit Plz, Bennington, NE 68007. The Douglas County Sheriff’s Office and the Nebraska Army National Guard will host a pregame ceremony beginning at 6:30 p.m.
