Hello! The Douglas County Board meets tomorrow, June 9. The agenda includes acceptance of the 2026/27 State Community-Based Grant Fund award, reappointment of Steve Youngberg to the Veterans Service Committee (thank you, Steven!), two special designated liquor license applications, and public hearings that include multiple text amendments to the Douglas County zoning regulations. We will also have budget presentations from Douglas County Corrections and Civil Service, as well as a resolution recognizing Laurie Levering (Civil Service; 13 years) on her retirement! Finally, we’ll have a resolution recognizing June 19th as Juneteenth and Emancipation Day! Full agenda in the comments.

I had such a wonderful time attending the South Omaha Neighborhood Alliance's 60th Anniversary celebration with Justin Solomon for Regent. Shout out to Kimara Snipes for a wonderful speech. "When residents lead, neighborhoods thrive." Amen!

You know it’s summer in Dundee when the flower baskets go up! We need volunteers, especially with trucks, to hang baskets. This Saturday morning (June 6) at 8am at the Usher Media (radio station) parking lot on Capitol Ave. between 50th and 51st. Let Peter Manhart know if you’re coming (402-350-3890; [email protected]). It’s an easy and fun way to beautify the neighborhood!

Good morning! The Douglas County Board has a packed meeting agenda tomorrow (June 2): Approval of 2025 Homestead Applications (Bd. Of Equalization); proposals to outsource pharmacy services at Douglas Co. Health Center and Community Mental Health Center; multiple items from Doulgas County Engineer and Douglas Co. Health Dept.; multiple special designated liquor license applications; presentations from the Sheriff’s Office, DotComm, and the Public Defender’s Office regarding their above-budget requests (plus more!). Finally, we are recognizing Mark Ekberg (19 years; Environmental Services) and Harvey Burtley (31 years; Corrections) on their retirements. Congratulations, Mark and Harvey! I was honored to attend the Douglas County Health Center's resident memorial service. This is a monthly service at DCHC's chapel for the residents who have passed away. It's an important opportunity for other residents and staff to remember friends they've lost since many residents can't easily attend off-site funerals.

I was with my great-aunt Clara (my daughter's namesake) when she passed away at the DCHC many years ago. I have always been so grateful to the staff for the care she received.

Tulsi Gabbard, like several of her colleagues in this administration, is that particularly toxic combination of craven, incompetent, and morally bankrupt. Thank goodness she's out, but the damage she's wrought will last a long while.

The Douglas County Board meets tomorrow morning (May 19th) at 9AM. For the Board of Equalization, we will be considering our 2026 equalization procedures and approval of the 2026 referees and coordinators, as well as several permissive exemption applications. For Board of Commissioners, we have multiple items from the Sheriff’s Office, presentations from the Clerk of District Court, Civil Services, and the Juvenile Assessment Center on budget requests, and resolutions recognizing the well-earned retirements of Richard Dutcher (23 years, Dept. of Correction) and Kenneth Paulison, Jr. (27 years, Sheriff’s Office).
