Our community. Our creativity. Our future.

The Urban League of Nebraska’s support of The Shift Summit by creates an opportunity to bring conversations around innovation closer
to home.

Through workshops exploring economic liberation, access and influence, and workplace systems, early innovators—especially innovators of
color—will have space to think creatively, collaborate across industries, and contribute their perspectives to Omaha’s future.

Because our African American community should not only be represented in conversations about social and economic progress—we should have opportunities to contribute ideas about what comes next.

Labor built this city. And today, we celebrate the people who keep building it. ✊🏾

This Labor Day, September 7, we pause to honor something deeper than a day off. We honor the workers who show up, step up, and keep moving forward. The ones taking the overnight shift, starting a new career, building a business, or creating new opportunities for their families.

That spirit is alive right now in North Omaha and across this metro.

For 99 years, the Urban League of Nebraska has stood beside workers, job seekers, and entrepreneurs as they turn hard work into opportunity. We connect people to careers. We prepare youth for the workforce. We help families build the kind of financial stability that creates lasting possibilities.

This Labor Day, we celebrate YOU. The worker. The provider. The one who keeps showing up.

Your labor is legacy. 🔥✊🏾

Three partners. One shared mission: stronger neighborhoods. 🏡

Strong neighborhoods start at home. When businesses, nonprofits, and community partners bring their resources together, meaningful change can happen right where people live.

Through the Driveway Repair Initiative, qualifying homeowners may receive approved exterior hardscape improvements, including driveway repairs, at no cost through Parking Area Maintenance's community giveback.

Each partner brings a different piece to the effort:

Parking Area Maintenance | Business Partner
Donating the labor, equipment, materials, and professional expertise needed for approved repairs.

️ MCL Construction | Corporate Partner
Supporting broader neighborhood revitalization and investing in the communities we call home.

Urban League of Nebraska | Community Partner
Leading outreach, managing applications, and conducting eligibility screening.

Priority consideration will be given to eligible homeowners within the Game On zone.

To qualify, the property must be residential, owner-occupied, suitable for the approved work, and allow safe access for contractors and equipment. Applicants must be the legal property owner, occupy the property as their primary residence, submit the required application and documentation, and participate in an onsite suitability assessment if selected.

Want to be considered? Contact the Urban League of Nebraska:
📞 402-453-9730
📧 [email protected]

Application and screening are required. Eligibility does not guarantee acceptance. Final approval depends on program requirements, available resources, contractor capacity, and onsite assessment.

Neighbors. Nonprofits. Businesses. Building better communities.

Your home carries the legacy of everything you've built. 🏡

The places we call home are more than buildings. They hold memories, milestones, hard work, and the lives we've built around them.

That's why investing in homes means investing in neighborhoods.

Through the Driveway Repair Initiative, three community partners are working together to support eligible homeowners with approved exterior hardscape improvements, including driveway repairs, at no cost to qualifying homeowners.

Parking Area Maintenance | Business Partner
Providing the labor, equipment, materials, and professional expertise needed to complete approved repairs.

️ MCL Construction | Corporate Partner
Supporting neighborhood revitalization and investing in stronger communities.

Urban League of Nebraska | Community Partner
Leading community outreach, managing applications, and handling eligibility screening.

Priority consideration will be given to eligible homeowners within the Game On zone.

To be considered, applicants must be the legal owner of the property and occupy it as their primary residence. Applicants must also complete the program application, provide requested documentation, and participate in an onsite property suitability assessment if selected for further review.

Homeowners who want to be considered for this project must contact the Urban League of Nebraska:
📞 402-453-9730
📧 [email protected]

Application and screening are required. Meeting the minimum requirements does not guarantee acceptance, and participation is subject to program capacity, available resources, contractor capacity, and final approval.

Strong homes. Strong neighborhoods. Stronger together.

250,000 people did not simply show up to Washington, D.C. on August 28, 1963. They were organized there.

Behind one of the most powerful moments in American history stood a 34-year-old Dr. Martin Luther King Jr., not just as a speaker, not just as a symbol, but as a principal architect of the March on Washington for Jobs and Freedom.

This was not spontaneous. It was strategy.

Dr. King worked alongside Bayard Rustin, A. Philip Randolph, and a coalition of civil rights, labor, and faith organizations to build the largest demonstration the nation's capital had ever seen. Logistics, messaging, coalition-building, and moral clarity, all of it converging on a single afternoon that changed the course of American history.

And when he stepped to that microphone on the steps of the Lincoln Memorial, it was not just a speech. It was the culmination of years of organizing, sacrifice, and collective will.

His dream was never passive. It was planned, it was coordinated, and it was powered by community.

That organizing spirit lives on. Here in Omaha, the Urban League of Nebraska has carried that same conviction since 1927, nearly a century of turning vision into action for Black families and underserved communities across this city.

The work is not finished. But it is being done.

Drop a 🙌 in the comments if Dr. King's legacy of action and organizing inspires you. Share this with someone who needs to be reminded that change is built, not waited for.

What a night. ❤️

The 2026 Annual African American Leadership Awards brought our community together to celebrate extraordinary leaders, honor a legacy of service, and reflect on the work that continues to move our community forward.

But the evening was about more than celebration. It was also about the future.

As our Board Chair shared, the Urban League of Nebraska is preparing to enter its second century of service. That future depends on all of us, donors, members, corporate partners, volunteers, mentors, and community members willing to invest in the work.

The impact is already happening. In the first half of this year alone, the Urban League served more than 800 students through youth and education programs, while hundreds more engaged in workforce and financial education, career boot camps, coaching, and other programs designed to create greater economic opportunity.

As we look toward 100 years of service in 2027, we invite you to be part of what comes next.

If you believe in the mission of the Urban League of Nebraska, now is the time to lean in. Make a gift, become a member, support a program, volunteer, or find another way to join the Movement.

👉 Donate today and help us build a stronger Urban League for the next 100 years.

Last Saturday was something special. The African American Leadership Awards brought our community together in a room full of excellence, legacy, and genuine love for Omaha. It was the kind of night that reminds you exactly why this work matters.

None of it happens without the people who believed in it first.

To our sponsors, thank you. Your generosity was not just in an event. It was in the leaders being celebrated, the young people watching from their seats, and the community that left that room feeling seen, honored, and charged up.

We are deeply grateful for your partnership and your commitment to advancing Black excellence in Nebraska. Events like this plant seeds. And because of you, those seeds have real soil to grow in.

Show our sponsors some love by supporting their businesses, organizations, and continued work in our community. When you support them, you help strengthen the work they make possible. ❤️
